Week 29 - ATP 250 - Plava Laguna Croatia Open, Umag (Clay) - doubles

Well done Dom, encouraging consistent form for Dom and Frank. Another win and they go 12th in the Race, although Dom can only move one place with a title this week in the individual rankings.

Yes and they'ed effectively go 11th in the race to the O2 since Mike Bryan is in 2 pairs ahead of Dom & Franko.

The problem is to make a move on top 8 they need to be playing in masters events and us open for rest of season. Maybe Canadian open (given skugor is Canadian) will give them a wildcard, not sure there individual rankings will get them into their or cinci at this stage?

confuse   Last time I checked, Jon, he was a Croat!  wink  It's a bit of a stretch, but are you perchance confusing him with Daniel Nestor?

How bizarre! For some reason I have had it in my mind he was Canadian all day, even though I posted in another thread about him being Croatian when we played them in the World Cup recently ! Maybe I was thinking of Nestor, all those Or ending names sound so similar!

Well, I guess it is highly unlikely that Dom will be getting a wild card into the Canadian Masters event then!

Yes Jon, the no doubt 24 pair draws for the remaining four Masters events can leave genuine contenders to reach the ATP tour finals struggling to get in, particularly when there are quite a number of entries on singles rankings.

It's the highly ranked doubles players that are seeded and getting byes. Would they be so averse to having to play an additional round? Though guess they are generally the top tour finals contenders having their positions protected to an extent by the limited draws, in the current year at least.

Hopefully Dom and Franko can continue to push their CR upwards to help get in to these events.

Ah, that wasn't part of the script

Anyway Umag SF points defended by Dom but no more. Let them off for now though after such a great Wimbledon and many sets played on a very different surface.
