I also felt it showed more today that Jamie and Vika weren't really an established partnership. Not surprising really. Considering how last-minute their entry was, they did so well to get to the final!
Though I guess in mixed doubles even a relatively established pair is actually quite rare and even then they wouldn't play often together. For instance I think last year's finalists Jamie & Martina Hingis and Heather & Henri Kontinen were each then playing together for the first time together.
Probably Vika's limited doubles play and play in general over the last year or so is more relevant, even though she was a 2012 Olympic mixed doubles champion. So still a good effort.
Ah thanks, I was looking back and thinking didn't Heather & Henri win the title. Ha that was 2016.
OK, the Wimbledon champion pairs of both 2016 and 2017 were then I believe both first time partnerships ( unless Jamie & Martina had played together in some distant past )
