Interesting - Emily withdrew from this tournament 2 weeks ago, but has popped up as Q1 seed in a draw that isn't full.

I would imagine that the grass court season has been pretty disappointing for Emily App.

There seems to be quite lot of pressure on her with all this Sky Sports Scholar stuff and she really hasn't had any wins of any note these past few weeks.

Maybe best to get out of the spotlight and try a low-key tournament away from home.

Strange to go back to clay though.

She is not listed as a WC which seems usual if you withdraw and then come in as a late entry, though she has gone into the Q event which is usual when that happens.

Yes, I think Emily would love to get 2-3 wins together at the moment, any kind of wins, even q wins in a 15k, just so that she is winning something for a change! In the MD though, she should be seeded, or it will be like Manchester, or wherever it was, where q players are higher ranked than the seeds (men's event I know).

I expect she entered as an on site alternate.

The last round of qualifying is Monday morning with the main draw starting Monday afternoon. As the draw for the main draw will have to take place on Sunday before the qualifiers are known I don't think she will be seeded if she qualifies.

Emily has kind of stalled recently. She did have good results on clay as a junior so maybe feels comfortable on this surface. Hopefully she can get things going again over the summer now.

Emily duly qualified
Q3: APPLETON, Emily (G3BR) 1 619 [18yo JCH=10] def MUJAN, Gabriella (NED) UNR [18yo JCH=620] 6-2 6-3

The final qualifying match has just started, so she has yet to see who she will play next. She'll be hoping that she doesn't take the qualifying spot against the top seed, Ivakhnenko, who is a wild card with a ranking of 174.

Emily completed a successful day winning the doubles 3 & 0.

In the doubles, to add onto RS, Emily is playing with Ida JARLSKOG (SWE) and they are 2nd seeds.

That's the 3rd time recently that Emily has drawn the top seed in the first round. Not having much luck with draws at the moment. She's performed creditably against them but that doesn't get you points, which is what she needs badly at the moment.

Bah, Emily would have been MD #4 seed if she hadn't withdrawn and then come back in to qualifying.
