Very nicely done by Mark. And he joins the top 3 seeds in the SF.
QF: (Q) Mark Whitehouse WR 1326 beat (Q) Iván Marrero (ESP) WR 1414 (CH = 1275 last December) 6-0 6-2
SF: (Q) Mark Whitehouse WR 1326 vs (1) Pablo Vivero Gonzalez (ESP) WR 421 (CH 283 in July 2016)
Just noticed that Mark on 16/07 Mark drops what were his existing 3 ranking points, from a Canada 25K QF. So nice timing to replace these by at least 6 points to not only retain a ranking but significantly improve it.

Once in a blue moon Mark seems to have one of those weeks where everything goes right. Now a break up in the first.
Don't agree. He played like a dream at surbiton but couldn't quite get the win (higher level of comoetition).
He didn't play from September to june due to high level studies. So whatever he does is once in a blue moon. His level every time I've seen him is always pretty high.
I've seen him a few times and I'm not seen anything to suggest he is good enough to play high level tennis.
Aah, but you said after the Wirral that Alicia Barnett 'wouldn't get any more than a handful of points per season'. And she's got 41
Only teasing - it's great when players do better than expected. (And I've certainly got a fair few non-starters )
And you're right - it's a question, maybe, of what we call high level.
I wouldn't ever see him as top 200. But the couple of times I've seen him recently, he's been playing about the 500-ish level, I would say. And that's without playing much international competition.
Whatever and whichever, it's lovely to see him get a final slot here in Portugal. And go Mark !
And now instead of losing a ranking all together on 16/07 ( as he would have if no points this week ) his 18 title points have him showing at a CH, live rank 859, GB #25.
