What impressed me today

1. Her serving
2. Her backhand has improved a lot
3. Some screaming winners on the run
4. Didn't even play well and won comfortably

Up to the 170's now. Let's see what she can do in Round 2

probably better without them, they didn't even know she'd been in the main draw 2 years ago

Brilliant result for Katie. Very cool and collected, and a very handy first serve there. Begu rattled as hell and simply imploded at the end. Very handy pay check and points haul for Katie, sets her up wonderfully for the rest of the year, and moves her up in terms of the types of tournaments she can look to compete in now.

Could play Mihaela Buzarnescu next, who is on court later today.

Katie Swan played well, very well in parts, though still looks raw at times. Begu, so competent on grass against Naomi last year, was the complete opposite today, with several truly dreadful errors, including twice losing games to a df and poor shots on the other two bps she lost. A better opponent would surely have punished Katie during the spell in the 2nd set when her first serve went missing.

Tremendous result for Katie. And a CH win by miles (previous was Lauren Davis WR102 in 2016)

Harriet's performance and Katie's result are a great boost for Gabi, Katie B and Katy D tomorrow

Naomi first on centre, Gabi and Katie B 2nd and 3rd on Court 14, Heather 4th on Court 12 and Katy on Court TBA, could be centre looking at the schedule.

Agree. And Harriet's performance, whilst will ultimately get overshadowed by Katie's wonderful result, was equally as impressive against the recent world number 1. Her backhand, sliced serve, volleys, movement and mental strength all very very encouraging!

Super stuff from both girls

Katie S soars up the rankings. She will enter the top 200 for the first time and in live rankings has moved ahead of Gabi WR 180 to GB #6. Sort that out Gabi ...
