Two German women into the women's semi-finals !

First time two into any GS semi since 1993

Well done, that country.

Well give them something to be cheerful about after the football.

Congratulations to Angie, a very deserving champion.
Joins Venus as the only player to defeat Serena in a Slam final more than once; Angie is also the only player to win a three set Slam final against Serena.

Some consolation for the Germans after their men's World Cup ignominy.

Well done to Angie, my start of the second week selection ( err my other was Rafa ).

And well done to Serena on going so very far this year.

Seems a decent coach that Wim Fissette fellow. Hmm ...

I have been a fan of Angie Kerber for years so glad she won.

Yes, well done to Angie, and Serena - not an epic final but played in a good spirit and the better person on the day won.

And worth noting maybe ..... :

2017 year-end rankings:

Konta 9
Kerber 21

Konta axes coach Fissette & Kerber hires him

Monday's rankings:

Konta 50
Kerber 4 (& #Wimbledon champ)

5 of Fissette's 7 charges in his coaching career have also met Serena during his tenure with them, and defeated her.
No other coach has anywhere near as good a record against the GOAT.
A shame about Johanna (Jo, call Carlos Rodriguez - he's apparently looking for another assignment!)

Very pleased Angie won but can never think of her without remembering that Laura beat her at Wimbledon years ago. She was not in the least amused.

I was courtside when Katie O'Brien beat her in Shrewsbury 75k - the week Katie made the top 100. Never would I have thought...

Angie  quickly recovered because she reached that years (2011)  US Open semi final.

I feel there must be a moral in this as far as Jo is concerned. Between finishing with 1 coach who she reached a grand slam semi final   and world top 10  with ,and  another who she maintained it and also reached a quarter and semi final grand slam with, to sinking to the ranking of 50 plus  only winning 2 matches in Grand Slams is a case of  if its not broke don't fix it.

In view of the fact that Jo has only won 2 matches in 3 Grand Slams this year wish she would finish the current unsuccessful regime and try the above !
