Time for a tie break ????

8 teams are already into the 3rd round whilst these guys battle on in the first....

Was high time. Pity, great effort by Jay & Cam.

In general across the matches a further showing of the real doubles strength in depth ( irrespective of our singles ) that Bob pointed to us having just now.

Yes, to go that long in a 5th set in men's doubles I find really pointless. If the AELTC insist on keeping best of 5 sets for men's doubles unlike the other slams, then they should agree to the 5th set TB. My main concern for Jay and Cam following a match like that is that they wouldn't want to see another tennis ball for the next month. Playing endless catch up on your serve, as they were, must start to seem like groundhog day after a while.

Disagree on this, its a Grand Slam, the pinnacle of the Sport. MTBs are pointless and make doubles a lottery. Also the interest in todays match raises the profile higher as even I was interested. 5 Sets and no Tie Breaks ensure the best players win as opposed to regular circuit doubles where its sometimes heads or tails.

There seems to be a real sticking point that everyone wants things too easy in Sport. It should be survival of the fittest to see champions so for me 22-20 in the 5th does that. And seeing as its our younger players taking the easier route to success with doubles rather than singles (although not Jay and Cam in this example) then fitness should and stamina should be no issue.

5 sets absolutely love it. I agree totally with Jaggy on this point. It is part of what makes Wimbledon a festival of tennis. Its even better if the other slams dont want to bother, Wimbledon defines doubles in its purest form. It is fabulous that we have so many top doubles players and such a presence in what is our own tournament.

One of my most vivid memories of Wimbledon is the annual school trip from my comp! in the Midlands, up at the crack of dawn to get a coach down, court 14 all day but then the highlight centre or No 1 in the evening watching top quality doubles, I still remember age 12 running to catch the bus after LLoyd and Lloyd beat Fibak and Okker over 5 sets on a beautiful summers evening in 1978! If only the Tennis club let kids join, I wouldnt have just pulled a hamstring still trying to play cricket!

Nah. I'd put in fifth set tie-breaks like a shot.
And probably make doubles three sets.
I don't think it's survival of the fittest - if so, make everything best of nine or thirteen or whatever marathon ironman version of tennis you want.
Nor do I think a tie-break is pot-luck - in fact, quite the opposite - it seems to me far fairer than a long drawn out set where the same person is serving first every time. A fairer long fifth set would be to change servers at 6-6 and 12-12 and 18-18....(even better, have a tie-break !).
And although I looked for the result, of course, I stopped watching the actual match of Jay and Cam at about 7-7 - it had gone past the point of no return - had gone into 'silly' territory.

Id be happy to have tiebreaks for fifth set. But hate match tiebreaks for final set in doubles. Should be third set which gives both teams a good go at winning the match before it becoming a tiebreak lottery.

Jamie and Bruno are soon to start on Court 2, as are Scott and Liam on Court 18.

I saw Scott getting some treatment in the 2nd set.

On the face of it, it looks like a great chance for Dom and Franko in the L16. Anyone see the opponents against Kontinen and Peers? Did they have an off day or did Gonzalez and Jarry up their game?
