L64: Marcelo Arévalo & Hans Podlipnik (ESA/CHI) CR 119 (69+50) defeated (WC) Jay Clarke & Cameron Norrie CR 458 (249+209) by 6-4 6-7(5) 5-7 6-4 22-20
The match lasted for a total over the two days of FIVE hours & 1 minute. What a marathon! Well done them for holding out for so long, but how heart-breaking it must be to have lost it.
What a shame, but what an effort. Despite the result, I am sure that was a match that will live long in the memory for them both, and will leave them hungry for more of the action in the years to come. With the talent they both have, there will be plenty more action, I have no doubt.
I bet Leon will be pleased to see them playing so well together - another option for DC in the future.
Plenty of those right now. The more the merrier. Given a couple of years and Leon may have some difficult doubles decisions to make but he won't be complaining about that.
8 teams are already into the 3rd round whilst these guys battle on in the first....
Was high time. Pity, great effort by Jay & Cam.
In general across the matches a further showing of the real doubles strength in depth ( irrespective of our singles ) that Bob pointed to us having just now.

Yes, to go that long in a 5th set in men's doubles I find really pointless. If the AELTC insist on keeping best of 5 sets for men's doubles unlike the other slams, then they should agree to the 5th set TB. My main concern for Jay and Cam following a match like that is that they wouldn't want to see another tennis ball for the next month. Playing endless catch up on your serve, as they were, must start to seem like groundhog day after a while.
