Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon - men's doubles (grass)

Err this is the real doubles thread, you must have got lost, Jaggy. But thanks for the info anyway and I guess there is a vague Luke connection.

I don't know if you've been following at all but things have generally been going very nicely for the Luke & Jonny doubles partnership. And still pretty early days as a pair.

Cam and Jay are back on court 14 on the RB. At this time, no commentators.

One win from the top hundred for Scott now.

Likely to be Kontinen and Peers in R2 so if he cracks that milestone this week he will have earned it the hard way.

 It isn't, they were beaten!

As intimated above:

L32:  (WC) Liam Broady & Scott Clayton CR 484 (376+108) vs Máximo González & Nicolás Jarry (ARG/CHI) CR 135 (58+77)

The South Americans saw off Kontinen & Peers (3) by 6-4 6-4 3-6 4-6 8-6.  Looks as though they could be adapting to the green stuff...  hmm

Score stands at  4-6 7-6(5) 7-5 *3-4.  The match will resume on Court 14 tomorrow after Bryan/Sock vs Arends/Middelkoop, 11.30 start.

At least this time it's second on and not last like today.

I think Jamie and Bruno were cancelled from today as well.

Great stuff. We are looking at some serious strength in depth in the doubles department at the moment.

The other side of the coin is that it is because of the failure in singles that this is the case. Whereas the womens game is having a cluster breaking through to Grand Slam Level, we have Jay in the mens and thats it for a few years anyway.

Yes. I'm really pleased for the guys, and enjoyed watching Liam and Scott, couldn't manage any of the others. And wish them well. But when your young players are choosing to specialise in doubles, and there are very few singles players, it's not great....

NB though I still have faith in Ryan S to make huge strides up the rankings if (if!) he's got his injuries behind him - him and Jay have always had my money. But even two swallows (if we get the two) doesn't make a summer.
