Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon - men's singles (grass)

Who'd have kept track of the points? Back to their roots, with no umpire or line judges ! (cf British Tour)

You've got to say, whatever side you're on, it would be quite funny if the guys just played a tiebreak, ignored the umpire, and the loser then shook hands....

Who'd have kept track of the points?  wink

The Djoker takes the final set by 10-8.  Not bothering to watch tomorrow's final.  no  Better things to do with my time.

I think the lads could have scored their own tie-break smile

They've grown up having to do it all the time in all their matches.

But I wasn't being completely serious.....

Focussing on the tennis, I for one am pleased for Djokovic, I think he has worked hard these past months and managed to somehow overcome both his demons (whatever caused them) and his injuries and get back to a Wimbledon final - kudos to him (although I dont warm to him).

And Kevin Anderson seems a nice guy if not overly blessed with personality or sparkle in his game. But he has done well and managed some big wins at what would normally be a late stage in his career , with his USO final and now this. Again, well done to the guy.

Djoko will win as he will tame the game of Anderson, and I suspect it will be 3 or maybe 4 sets max.

And I will probably be gardening with my wife, watching the start of the tennis and then switching to the football final. Oh with a couple of hours work to do early am as I slacked off early Friday and have a deadline with a v busy week ahead!!!

But tonight is free and prosecco is being poured so time to bid adieu for the evening!

For what it's worth, @tennisratings did a poll of (currently) 576 voters, and the results re fifth sets and tie-breaks are:

How should a 5th set end in mens Slam matches?

29% Stay as it is
20% 5th set tiebreak
47% Tiebreak at 12-12 5th set
4% Best of 3 sets like WTA

Let it be recorded that Novak Djokovic won the Wimbledon title in straight sets.

Think I may not have been the only one that say watched the boys final and the World Cup Final and the men's final basically just passed me by.

Slam tennis should be played to the death. No final set tie breaks last man standing wins. Except when it's Isner then it's last spectator standing.

Yep - you and quite a few others....

So the AELTC killed their own final - which pleased quite a few as they could watch the football but will annoy the bods even more (or maybe not, maybe they are secret footie fans....no)

So, yes, thank you to Draper and Tseng for setting the afternoon off well - and to France and Croatia for giving us 6 goals.

I imagine that will be the lowest rating for a Wimbledon Mens final for quite some time

Will be interesting to see if Ladies final got higher viewing figures than the mens. Combination of the World Cup final clash, no player who the public really want to support/ watch (sorry Novak!) , and the predictable outcome before the start due to Anderson's mammoth semi-final

I doubt it as it clashed with the England football match

Men's final: Wimbledon peaked with 4.06m (30.8%) at 15:45.

Saturday:

13:15: Wimbledon 2018 - 3.03m (27.8%)
* peak - 4.64m (37.2%) at 17:20
* Djokovic v Nadal (13:15-15:40) - 3.43m (35.6%)
* Kerber v Williams (15:40-17:45) - 3.05m (23.9%)

Edited for formatting. I got this off another forum which collates ratings for tv.

If anyone missed it, when Andy was in with Tim Henman (for definite) and Sue (I think it was), on tv, the first time, just discussing in general, the other two were twittering on a lot about Fed and Nadal - and it was Andy who said he reckoned Novak was the man.
No grass grows on our Andy.....
