Ms. Robson lost last year, to Alexandrova.

However those of us with long memories... will remember:

First win for a while, certainly

Out of interest is Southsea the only 16 draw event on the circuit or are there others out there?

Well, well. Katie joins the group chasing CH wins, with a resounding victory over WR91 Schmiedlová

Excellent win and also sets her up nicely in the British wins race!

Err, wow girl !!!   biggrin

Also Katie, having already moved up to GB #3 for next Monday's rankings, will be live GB #2 once last year's Wimbledon points are taken off ( Katie 10, Heather 130 ).

Onwards and upwards ...

I don't recall any others Jon, that are actually competitive ITF tournaments rather than being an exhibition event.

And wow, Katie is really burning up the grass there. I will be interested to see how Brady, Gabi's conqueror from yesterday, gets on against Linette today - the winner Katie will play next. And yes too, as Indy notes, Katie is also closing in on Heather in the live rankings too. So far she is up to WR 130, with Heather WR 111, and this before the Wimbledon points come off.

thought so Michael, thanks. I keep wondering why they dont make it 32 draw and get more Brits in but I suppose everyone is playing at Roehampton or Eastbourne

With spaces left in Eastbourne qualifying they really need to rethink this tournament.

As for opportunities for British players, they'll be even less next year through the grass season with ITF qualifying draws limited to 24 entrants.

Having just got home from a second day at Southsea, I will beg to differ on the rethink. Relaxed atmosphere, pretty much non corporate, players of roughly equal ability. excellent practice facilities freely available...3 courts open all day. 1st Seed Petra Martic lost in tight match on day 1 but stayed to practice at will during day 2

With easy parking. reasonable prices and spectator friendly scheduling , I would contend that it is a brilliant pre Wimbledon offering for a certain cohort of players and fans who don't want Eastbourne prices or the hassle of Roehampton

Katie B was brilliantly sharp today
