Hmm, could be worse.

Nice set of points just for the one win too

Unless they were playing each other then they are not bad draws at all. I saw the Yastemska vs Alexandrova match at Ilkley on Saturday and Alexandrova had the trainer out st the end of the set and had her calf strapped and it was a comfortable victory in the end. Alexandrova probably was far more competitive than Gabi vs the young Ukrainian but if she still is feeling the effects then it could be an opportunity. Alexandrova does have a big serve though so Gabi will obviously have to return MUCH better than she did last week.

Ah, just realised it's Katie vs Alexandrova so a lot of that is redundant but the point that she may not be 100% still stands.

I always get the impression that Brady is higher ranked than her talent suggests, like a lot of her compatriots given the sheer number of WTA and big ITF events in her home country. I noticed she lost very early in Manchester I think despite being a high seed, so i honestly think given the field, these are decent enough draws.

No Brits in the 6 pair doubles draw. The 2 seeded pairs have byes to the SF with 2 wins to win the tournament.

Yes any young Brits could have signed into doubles and played

Yes some would have done but for not knowing whether they have Wimbledon quali dubs wild cards!

There's certainly been no effort this week to look after the doubles players which is extremely disappointing. Anna S is going to go into Wimbledon without even having played on British grass so far this year, and yes, there are still two women's pairs who should be given some kind of Wimbledon recognition.

We have many doubles players that would compete /win at this level during the grass season who are ignored (men and women). Compare this to wild cards in the singles who haven't got a chance. I know there is an investment in youth but some of the top doubles players are not young

Is the doubles event here making history for being the first home female tennis draw to not have any Brits in?

I suspect it might have happened if they hadn't been "told" wink

Gabi is now on court and on livestream. Is an early break down and looking rusty. No early rhythm. It's a few weeks since she's won a match now, although she did play well against Vekic. She could do with a performance today though.

A better service game, but her return game is still missing in action. She needs to find it again. At the moment she is both a bit slow and then either dumping balls in the net or spraying backhands. 1-4

Im getting the feeling here that Gabi is using this tournament to test out a few things, its an odd event so not a bad idea ultimately.

I see a slot opened up with T Maria pulling out and a 34 year old Czech well down the alt list has got in

Shame someone like Emily App couldn't have stepped in as she was on the list and higher up as well. Would have been a nice no lose experience for her.
