Goodness, that's a yippee-doo-dah result. Well done.

As you say Bob, hope he can capitalise.

Yes, that's 4 points for Evan for reaching the QF and many more can be won here.

Given 25K+Hs are pretty rare I just looked up the points and it's a 1/4/10/20/35 progression.

He's doing even better in the doubles:

SF:  Marat Deviatiarov (UKR) & Evan Hoyt CR 1287 (427+860) defeated (3) Sébastien Boltz & Denis Yevseyev (FRA/KAZ) CR 1005 (464+541) by 3-6 6-3 [11-9]  biggrin

*****

Final ( biggrin ):  Mick Lescure & Eduardo Struvay (FRA/COL) CR 2046 (457+1589) vs Marat Deviatiarov (UKR) & Evan Hoyt CR 1287 (427+860)

1st set in the bag for Evan. 6-4

Live scores from Palma del Rio more entertaining than a certain football match that is going on right now.

Yes, I hear that there's a testimonial match going on in Kaliningrad. Sounds like Marcus's kind of gig.

They do like their late evening tennis in Palma del Rio. Evan has lost the 2nd set on a TB. So it's 10pm, the 3rd set is about to start. This will be followed by another singles match and then Evan will play in the doubles final "after suitable rest". At this rate, the "after suitable rest" rule could mean a good night's sleep.

And Evan does back up his win against the fourth seed:

QF:  (PR) Evan Hoyt WR 856 defeated (7) Pablo Vivero (ESP) WR 419 by 6-4 6-7(2) 7-5

*****

SF:  (PR) Evan Hoyt WR 856 vs (2) Lucas Miedler (AUT) WR 309 (CH = 300 last October)

Fantastic. 10 points in the bag with the chance of more. Miedler had it easy today with his opponent retiring after 1 set meaning they were only on court for 27 minutes.

Evan set to rise over 100 places when these points go on.  Only 7 points to defend before the end of this years and none of those until Oct.  On this form, Evan has a real chance to boost his ranking over the next few months.

Most importantly, I just hope he is able to stay injury free.  Given what is happening at Eastbourne this week, there was some banter with Greg Rusedski about the Junior DC team from a few years back.  Kyle, Luke and Jonny were/are all going strong but the question put out there was "where is Evan?".  The other member of that team.  The answer is going strong in Palma del Rio on his latest comeback from injury

Evan is one of those players that with an injury free run, could easily make a really good run up the rankings.

Semi-finalist in a 25k+H - that's nice

Evan, of course, was another one of our players who got royally pooped on by the AELTC's decision re Dan - he'd have had a decentish chance of making his way through the Wimbly wildcard play-offs if he hadn't met a fresh-legged Dan in R1 ....

Hardly surprising, I suppose, in the circumstances.
