It's contextual. He's using a minority group to signify how rubbish his play /shot was.

Is there any way to insult yourself without upsetting some sort of minority? (... or, more likely, some group of people on behalf of said minority?)

"Oh you sad panda" is obviously ailuropodaphobic, after all.

The dictionary is a big book of words which you can read and learn without insulting people.  He used a homophobic slur and you defending him it is also offensive.

BTW why do I have to be part of a minority to be offended by homophobia. As it is, I am part of that minority group and I do find your comments and defense of Evans around this issue has personally caused me offence. Does that answer your question? Can a moderator please step in?

Speaking personally, Jiwan, I absolutely see where you are coming from. There are plenty ways to chastise yourself without using such a term apparently because you see such a reference as derogatory.

As a mod though, nothing in this exchange of views would I moderate out. People are often left best judged by what they write. But be sensible folk and show consideration.

I like 'muppet' - and I don't think that offends muppets

I remember Helen Parish screaming at herself 'you are SUCH a MUPPET !!!!!!!!!'

Made me smile.

There are many others to choose from too.

Okay, thanks Indiana. Let those be judged in that case

I can't believe that the only GB player to make FQ is not available for us to watch on the show court and the BBC.  Instead they choose Tomic, Bouchard (for the third time) and Zvonareva.  I think it's a disgrace!

 I think so too.

But I do wonder if it's because they have too few seats. For Evans' match there was a big queue outside the court, throughout the match, and people couldn't get seats to see it.

Whereas on court 16, it's the show court and everyone can watch easily (including all the bigwigs) and it's very convenient rather than at the very far end.

I know that doesn't help the TV viewing public but I think the powers that be probably prefer it.

In which case, why isn't that the one they have camera's on?
