Week 26 - WTA Premier ($852K) - Eastbourne, GBR Grass

Harriet Dart/Katy Dunne WC 332 (155+177) LOST to [4] Gabriela Dabrowski (CAN)/Yifan Xu (CHN) 27 (10+17) 6-2 1-6 7-10

I've seen them play better than that, but it is still a very good performance against a good doubles pair.

(Official rankings taken from Coric)

Pity. 100 ranking points and $7410 for the pair for reaching the QF ( $4020 for being in R1 ).

Still, a nice little cheque, to go with the one on its way in the next couple of weeks.
Shame about the points though

Yes, but these two are singles players. It's the genuine Brit doubles player who should be playing here! (I'm not begrudging these two, just noting that if we are talking about doubles points and prize money, it's the one top 50 doubles player we have who should have been given an opportunity to earn these.)

Jo played with Babos, and they managed a nice win. I wonder if they chatted in Hungarian?

No news is rarely good news on here, and Konta lost the third 6-4.

I keep looking for comments on Jo's match but there's nothing. Has everyone lost interest in her?

Perhaps more likely that people were at work? Another forum I'm part of said she played pretty well in set 3 and that there were encouraging signs. As I was at work, I don't know for sure.

No - just been watching Andy/Kyle, then cooking and eating!

Jo started off really well - very impressive I thought. In the second set Caro began to play better and Jo seemed almost to be going for the lines too much (maybe because she felt she had to) and missing almost every time. Not a complete collapse from Jo, or anything like really. She lost to the better player. That's probably not a very good summary.

Yes, the reports suggest Jo played pretty well 1st and 3rd sets, ground strokes were still there. Probably unlucky to be playing Caroline as early as the L16, but that's what happens when you fall down the rankings.

I saw a report a few days ago which was talking up Jo's chances of actually winning Wimbledon. I don't think that's helpful to her at all at the present, especially to the extent that Jo feeds into it herself. The reality is her situation has changed and she's playing catch up now. Better to acknowledge it and take some pressure off yourself, and then focus on playing your natural game without feeling you have to be/ need to be winning games like today. As Caroline stepped up her play in the 2nd set, Jo was obviously going for far too much, instead of keeping with the game that won her the first set, and to which she returned more in the 3rd. Apparently the break there that won Caroline the match came on a Jo DF.

Ah the Heather tactic. Break/be ahead and then revert playing to type.
