Week 25 - Wimbledon Wild Card Playoffs

Congratulations to Sam and Freya. Nice to see the QWCs going to two players at the opposite end of their careers - one seasoned pro coming back from injury and one youngster (ish) just starting out. Good luck to them both. Seems to me it would seem a bit harsh on the chaps if one of the female lucky losers gets a WC whilst Jack FH, who lost out to the highest ranked player in the play offs can't. But then again when did the AEC care about fairness?

Totally, this year it's more about victimising Dan at the expense of anyone else.

Well done to Sam and Freya. Freya is one of our best young players, so really pleased for her that she got through, and admire Sam for sticking in there and winning through once again - she has been a great servant to British tennis over the years.

Also hope as the higher ranked runner up Tara gets that final discretionary place - she has been miserably treated last year in being overlooked for a main draw wildcard place last year and this year in getting an automatic wildcard qualifying slot, and I agree with others that the emphasis on youth means that many older players who are still playing relatively well are getting overlooked at the expense of younger prospects who are aren't at the current standard of the oldies.

It is difficult, but as Indiana says, there is a middle road.

Great that Freya is through very pleased for her and congratulations to Sam. I would also like to see Tara squeeze in I stood next to here a couple of years back and she was very complementary about Freya's game.

Freya's score line reflects on form she is more than capable of winning at 25k level, let's hope this kick starts a run of form. Big swings across the sets in Danielle and Eden's game which went to 3 only for Freya to make short work of the winner. Perhaps a reflection of the step up from 15-25k.

Yes. It would be lovely if this was a bit of a sea change moment for Freya - it has been such an uninspiring year and yet she has so many natural attributes, so much upward potential.
