Week 25 - Wimbledon Wild Card Playoffs

Bit of a shock there in the bottom match.

I would to see Sarah-Beth come through. She's been a proper slogger over the last few years. Would be a nice reward.

In the end happy for the winner.

Don't forget that Beth is only 22, and has had plenty of close matches this year with higher-ranked players.

I hope Freya comes through. Her QWC match a few years ago seemed to mentally exhaust her I remember the match lasted two days and she lost in a long third set battle. It would be good to see her back.

Eden R is not to be underestimated although UNR admittedly grass is a very different surface to the hard courts on which she has had collegiate success but very little difference between those making the NCAA singles tournament and those winning 15Ks.

 Not to be underestimated indeed.

I do agree and think she has a good chance of coming through the bottom half.  But I'm really torn because I'd also love to see Freya find some form and come through as she desperately needs a confidence boost.  Such a shame these two have to meet in round 2 which means only one of them can possibly get a WC

Yes, the young lady has slogged her way up from WR 834 at the end of the 2016 season to WR 665 at the end of the 2017 season to now verging on the top 500 at WR 502. And would indeed be higher if she had finished off some good match positions rather than ending up losing quite a number of tight matches to decent players.

Sometimes looks as if she just needs to believe more and making Wimbledon qualifying would be a nice boost.

Eden r v Jodie was always going to be close - as mentioned - Eden r has shown some excellent form on grass and has her form of the previous 12 months to build on. And the score was indeed close.

Eden could well come through the bottom half. An impressive result today.

Jodie allegedly had a place at Florida which she declined, it would have been a surprise if she had managed to make the No 1 slot there, Eden has done that, admittedly at a weaker programme but in the same conference and excelled against the other No 1's in top programmes. Regular competition against the best college players.

It really depends on which Freya turns up in the SF and Final. On form she is the class act.

Yes, it really does depend which Freya turns up. Her form has been pretty bad over the last few months, and she has lost to both Alicia and Beth. She'll have to do much better to get through, and may well do. I still expect the final to be between Beth and Eden, and to be close, although Beth did win both their two meetings at ITF and Q level.

Looks like both Freya's turned up, as she lost the middle set 1-6, but won anyway.

Thought Em v Sam would be more competitive than that

Well done Freya
