As it stands, kyle would slip to 22nd seed with the grass court formula. A great week for Coric in Halle has propelled him into the top 32 players, from 34 to 26. If he beats Federer tomorrow in the final his seeding will take him above kyle with the grass court formula and push kyle down to 23 seed.

Bah, these Brits and their grass court formula.

I see that if you apply the grass court formula to everyone Andy is #20. Slight problem is that he is a little bit away from the top 32 in the rankings!

Is it right that the grass court formula only applies to Men and not to the Ladies? And if so and the WTA rankings are followed as standard how can Wimbledon justify seeding Serena which the press say is under consideration? It's all very confusing

Has anyone got a link to the grass court formula please, I know there is one, but have no idea where/how it is calculated.

Thanks Tom, this gives a formula, but then refers to last year.

It's the same way this year.

Their ranking points on 25/06

Plus 100% of their grass court points in the last year ( ie from the last week before Wimbledon 2017, Wimbledon 2017, ATP 250 Newport 2017 and the grass court tournaments so far this year )

Plus 75% of their best single points score in the year prior to that.

Yes, the formula only applies to the men's top 32 participating ranks.

But, as per the above link, "The seeding order follows the WTA ranking list, except when in the opinion of the committee, a change is necessary to produce a balanced draw."

They went with the straight WTA rankings list last year and usually do, but they allow themselves such possible subjective alterations.

They used to change the men's list subjectively quite a lot with various moans before introducing an objective formula.

I guess there are much more clearly grass and clay experts in the men's game than the women's game. Hence not generally feeling the need to alter the women's order.

Thanks, I read that they were going to make a decision on whether Serena will be seeded on Tuesday, which prompted my question.

Coric did bear Federer in the Halle final, but also Berdych has withdrawn from Wimbledon with a back injury so Kyle remains in the #22 seed position.

Just to note that the seedings are out today. Kyle is at 22 as predicted. In the women's, Cibulkova has been the one to lose out, as Serena is placed at 25, thereby avoiding the top seeds for a couple of rounds. Bit of a fudge all round.

Yes, and they have now bracketed Serena with a top 8 seed for R3. Thought they might have put her into the general 9 to 24 mix if at all.

To repeat what I posted elsewhere, seeding Serena 25 ensures Sharapova at 24 is not disadvantaged.  Clearly showing her more consideration than Dan.

Ah ha, that was a bit inconvenient having such a protected species in the WR 24 position. But they are such chums that there would have been no problem

They could have been a bit savvy and put Serena a bit lower than #25, for instance #30 ( makes no practical difference which #25 to #32 seed she is ) rather than highlight it like that, and interestingly give us more of a guide to their possible thinking.
