Charles Broom has had a great season at Dartmouth although restricted to the confines of the Ivy League he played in the No 1 slot, they won it and got an NCAA tournament birth loosing in the first round to Oregan.
Charles was beaten by Thomas Laurent at No. 1 but by no means disgraced, he definitely could have got a slot at an academic power conference college (Vanderbilt, Stanford, Cal, UCLA, Duke, even Texas or Florida) played and thrived at a higher level from a tennis perspective. Great to see him making progress here. It will be interesting to see how he compares over the summer with Paul Jubb and Jack Molloy who are playing in high slots (jack behind two seniors) in power conference programmes hopefully they will all have a crack at futures.
L32: (7) Alejandro Gómez (COL) WR 680 (CH = 352 in March last year) vs Thomas Colautti WR 1151 (CH = 1140 last month)
L32: (Q ) Charles Broom WR 1355 vs (WC) Karl Poling (USA) UNR
The winners of those two matches face one another on the last 16.
Something to warm the ****les of Jaggys heart.
It could be a match up between British Ivy League boys past v present or alternatively a Reeds School old boys tournament, I fancy present to beat past should it happen.
