An easy bedding in to life at the 25k level for Fran as she beats the unranked Orlova 6-3 6-0. But the full flush of reality at the stepped up level shall arrive next match against the top seed
Soumeya and Sofia served for the first set at *5-4, but that was as good as it got sadly. still no disgrace and Soumeya has doubled her points tally here this week.
QF: Soumeya ANANE/ Sofia SHAPATAVA (GBR/GEO) 1400 (1182+218) lost Linnea MALMQVIST/Angelica MORATELLI (SWE/) [2] 1149 (658+491) 6-7(3) 2-6
There's no play in Obidos today owing to rain, a familiar refrain when the last round of matches was played here too. It means Friday beckons with still the R16 matches to go, so it means they will try and play the QF matches too tomorrow, again weather permitting.
Obidos already postponed until this afternoon - yet again they are going to struggle to get the matches in with next weeks qualifying due to start tomorrow.

That 'carpet' surface there does NOT appear ideally suited to their climate! They could do with a faster drying surface that's for sure...
Delayed further until 4pm. There should only be a handful of qualifying matches tomorrow as there are only 28 entrants + QWCs in a 48 draw so QR1 will be mostly byes. There should be plenty of court availability to clear this weeks backlog; weather permitting.
13 singles and 3 doubles still to play this week, and four courts normally available. But as you say, a low entry for next week, so if the weather finally clears up and the courts dry out, they could be back on schedule by Sunday night.
Well, the rain may have cleared but the proceedings in Obidos remained dismal for the two Brits unfortunately
R16: Maia LUMSDEN (GBR) [8] 424 lost to Valeria SOLOVYEVA (RUS) 548 (CH:163 May 13) 2-6 2-6
R16: Francesca JONES (GBR) 569 17yrs lost to Dejana RADANOVIC (SRB) [1] 271 (CH:232 May 18) 3-6 0-6
It is disappointing and hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if they stayed in England, they would both be almost certs to get a MDWC into Manchester or Nottingham quals if they preferred. At least they did win a match apiece, but they'll have been messed about a bit and probably next week as well looking at the weather until Thursday where there would have been a lot more points (and comforts) on offer had they played in England.
