Yet Yastremska has had 2 matches so far on grass before today and hadnt even won a set, losing to Claire Liu last week ranked below Katy circa 220.

What an awful couple of days - must have had 8 matches and I literally don't think they've managed a set between them - Eden, Emily, Beth, Jo, Heather, Gabi, Katy, Katie B. Obviously some (or most) were expected to lose, but 16 sets and not even a losing the break between them is a bit pathetic.

The men have been just as bad mind.

I saw the match at Manchester between Yastremska and Liu. Yastremska hit lots of exceptionally good shots and attacked throughout. She only lost because Liu's defence was top class.

I see that Yastremska reached the Wimbledon girls final 2 years ago, having not long turned 16. So all in all it looks as if she can be pretty good on grass.

Actually beat the 2017 Wimbledon girls champion, the aforementioned Claire Liu, quite handily in the QF in 2016 before losing in the final to Potapova.

But for arguably your best prospect to be broken 4 times and not to have a single break point (or even a deuce) and barely muster up 8 points in 8 return games is pretty poor whichever way you look at it - it's certainly a far cry from losing so narrowly last week to the far more renowned grass specialist Vekic anyway.

Arguably is the right adverb.  Katie Boulter has (arguably) a bigger game and more potential than Gabi to make it to the next level.  Gabi is a solid performer with a great mindset but limited weapons.  Doing well right now though, which is great.

Also, it's one underwhelming loss in six months of generally very good results. No need to panic just yet.

Harriet was very impressive for the few games I saw. Striking the ball well, and good tactics.

Sad, yes. She has had a rough time.
On the other hand, that gives a walkover to Olivia and Gabi in the doubles.
