Week 23 - Challenger (€127,000) - Fuzion 100 Trophy - Surbiton, Great Britain (grass)

Klein wants that Wimbledon return.

E King has been in awful form for a few months now, but is still in the top 200 and will be in WImbledon Q's, so if he can win here and then qualify, he may well put himself in contention again with the lack of credible competition elsewhere.

FQR:  (q1) Taylor Fritz (USA) WR 68 vs Brydan Klein WR 464

I doubt Brydan will be able to knock Fritz off his perch.

He'll have to go some to get his traditional late awarded Wimbledon MD WC. Certainly looking a Q WC at best this year.

Yes. Well done Brydan.  A top 200 win is a top 200 win. Very nice.

Luke is holding his own so far against Daniel Brands, trading two tiebreak sets and claiming an early break in set 3

Luke will be a typical dangerous 'doubles player' playing singles on grass. Especially when his serve is on point as is the case so far today... 25 aces!

Yes, he has said he now enjoys his singles outings and with that can come danger for the opposition if he is swinging free and well. But re Jaggy's comments regarding him, 'doubles player' I certainly imagine he will remain for the future. He gave singles a very serious go but decided it wasn't happening and he wasn't enjoying it and made his career choice.

Sadly, Luke couldn't hang on to the early break:

QR2:  Daniel Brands (GER) WR 334 defeated Luke Bambridge WR 587 by 7-6(5) 6-7(4) 6-4  cry

Pity for Luke

Generally a tough gig to qualify here and, with no points or prize money if you don't, less than unabated enthusiasm for rolling up to qualifying is arguably pretty understandable, particularly if realistically little chance of qualifying. Luke has his other hat.

Good experience yes, but not all can afford it.

Perhaps not mincemeat, but a win for Dan nevertheless:

QR2:  Dan Evans WR 858 defeated Neil Pauffley WR 740 by 6-3 7-6(5)

Well done to Neil for making it bit of a fight of it.  Molloy or Corrie in the FQR; their match is poised at a set all.

I think Neil knows Dan game well and also can play on grass so not surprised he got a decent haul of games. Would expect ed on grass to run him to similar scoreline I think, which is fine.

Yes, was always a good chance that Neil on one of his good days ( not enough of these, Neil ! ) would provide fair opposition to Dan at this stage.

Good that Dan has another win and will be favourite to qualify. Hope he doesn't get too tired out
