And Dan double faults to set up 3 match points for the Frenchman. He only needs one as Evo nets a forehand. Well played to both. There was very little between them but Chardy probably just edged it overall, as the score reflects. Surely Dan has done enough this week to earn some MD WCs in the coming weeks?
Not a fab tb from Dan, he didn't serve well. Overall though, he will take many positives from the match and the week. It was a very close match against a top hundred player who is very strong on grass. JC's forehand was monster good today. The match turned on fine margins. Dan had more BPs than JC. And Dan can now have a couple of days off!
It's looks like Dan is playing top 100 standard already. Although I'm slightly concerned that playing as many matches back to back without much training /fitness is going to lead to injury
Jeremy Chardy brought Dan Evans run of six straight victories to an end with a 64 76(3) victory over the Briton in their semi-final clash at the Fuzion 100 Surbiton Trophy on Saturday.
The big-serving Frenchman, who is the top seed in the mens draw, was in impressive form as he overcame qualifier Evans in a tight affair in one hour 25 minutes.
It was a really close match. Its always the same on the grass courts, you need to hold your serve and try to take your chances which I did in the first set and in the second set I played a really good tiebreak so thats why I won. I feel good to win and to be in the final, said the former world No. 25
Congrats to Chardy ('Jim') who beat the young pretender in 3 sets.
He's good to watch, graceful tennis, a crowd favourite (seemingly with the ladies especially), a good guy, and at least Evo can say he lost to the eventual champion !

And he is an honorary Brit as well! Well, he has married an English lady and lives in South West London, so probably as British enough in my eyes!

There's a video interview with him on ATP Challenger page where he talks about Surbiton, Queens and Wimbledon all being home events for him more than Paris ever was with only rg and bercy nearby!
