I thought you could only get SEs for the same level event?
Yes, you're right, and Nottingham men is also a challenger. although the women's is an LTA event... Confusing I know, with these different levels mixed up.
If melzer was dans best win on his return so far, chardy will be his toughest test so far. chardy beat Dan in DC QF in 2017, in 3 sets albeit on clay. Possibly Dan was just about to get caught at Barcelona as well a week or two later
So therefore it logically follows that if Melzer was not his best win, Chardy would not be his toughest test to date.
mmm. Not what I meant but heh, glass of wine time will help me sort that out
Qualifier Evans prevailed in a tricky encounter against former world No. 8 and 2010 Wimbledon doubles champion Melzer (AUT) 76(3) 64 in one hour 26 minutes to record his sixth match-win of the week.
Im feeling better and better each match I play. It wasnt comfortable but I was the better player out there I thought, said Evans.
I worded myself poorly. "The folly of trying to follow both men's and women's tennis closely" arguably a better description.
That being said a) women's tennis is a very distant poor relation to men's tennis BUT b) I do agree both genders merit equal prize money (although that's a debate for another day)

Your first sentence is ok, your second gets you into trouble again.
Don't let Serena (or most other women tennis players) get hold of you Jeff (or Andy Murray and plenty of other men for that matter). And do try watching some women's tennis occasionally, especially with our present up and coming crop of British players. You just might be pleasantly surprised.

There was recently some articles based on a Twitter comment that a Waterstones employee posted about how odd it was that men would come in and ask for book recs "but none written by women". Women don't do the opposite.
If you don't watch women's tennis then it's your loss. You won't convince me otherwise.

As per the women's thread, managed to base myself next to Surbiton this week and nipped in and out regularly.
The matches have been covered and people will have seen them on livestream but just a few asides:
Bambo seems to be good mates with Taylor Fritz. I guess that playing higher level tournaments (because of doubles) means he makes friends with a different group of players. A 'better' group. Which, in terms of approach to tennis, expectations, etc. etc. must be useful. I'd never really thought about it before, as a benefit of doubles, but it's interesting....
Talking of which, Fritz's match against de Minaur was knockout - it was Bob who said that de Minaur seemed amazing at age 16 (more promising - by a tad - than Ruud, for instance, when he saw them both). Well, I've not seen Ruud live but I'm with Bob. It was a 'wow' performance from a teenager against another excellent player. Mind you, he's not tall, 5ft 10 or so, it's OK but not great.
On the same subject, if Fabbiano lists on his site that he's 5ft 8 (see a few pages back), the man is telling whoppers ! He made Evo look like the Jolly Green Giant and Evo is only 5ft 9 on a good day. Fabbiano is 5 ft 5, or 6, on tip-toes.
Evo was a pleasure
Roger Taylor was there too, looking very dapper. He was talking about the LTA and their funding changes. Shouldn't eavesdrop (and tried not to, honest!) so will only give one excellent 'Yorkshire' quote: when Roger asked the Surbiton chap if he was a member of the LTA and the chap said, "no, should I be, what's the advantages?", Taylor said "well, it's free". Brilliant.
But for all tennis nut forumites, the best quote came from:
Middle-Aged Surbiton Guy to me: "I'm a real die-hard tennis fan, I follow it really closely, you'd be amazed. I read the tennis round-up page every week, even out of season".

Yes. Really liked his "all court game" even at such a young age. I seem to remember commenting that he would be quite some player when he starts to "fill out" a bit. He still has some way to go in that regard but the talent is obvious.
As for the comparison with Ruud, he was injured on the day I saw him so perhaps my comparison was a little unfair on him and I should go and watch him again sometime. Sadly neither of them are likely to be playing Murcia futures again during their careers.
