I see that four 19 yos have reached R2. In order from the youngest - Moutet, Shapovalov, Ruud and Tsitsipas and 14 under 23s in total. Currently in the live top 64 there are two 19 yos ( Shapovalov and Tsitsipas ) and 11 U23s.

With just #17 Berdych to complete ( lost the first 2 sets to Chardy ), only one top 20 seed has lost in R1 ( #14 Sock ). 6 seeds have lost in total and also #21 Kyrgios withdrew.

All fall down for the 19 yos in R2. The two youngest through to R3 are Zverev and then Coric, both 21, with 5 U23s in all. There are 4 U23s in the live top 32 so about par re matching that figure for current top U23s.

The top 11 seeds survive, 17 of the top 20, and 22 of the 32 seeded to reach R3.

Zverev (2) has just survived a scare in five sets against Damir Dzumhur (26) in three hours & 54 minutes, while that wily old campaigner, Fernando Verdasco, saw off Dimi (4) in straight sets!

Dimitrov seems to have had a poor season so far after an end to last season that promised a lot. I wonder how his relationship with Andy Murray's old coach (his name eludes me) is going?

Why did you go to the hassle of adopting that ludicrous "u"?

Foreign and ludicrous are not synonyms.

that's it. Thanks!  I recall his early period with berdych went well and then stalled before they parted, thought dimitrov might be a longer term prospect - they seemed to get in well and I think dani was underrated when lendl took all the glory in the press for Andys first spell of gs success.

Thanks, Helen.  I wasn't going to dignify Mr Stelling's ludicrous comment with a reply.  The professional linguist in me will not let me overlook foreign accents, so I know all the common accent codes by heart, which means it's hardly a hassle to use them!  wink

Yes, I suspected it was virtually no hastle.

Not my bag this accents accuracy business ( mainly out of ignorance and not used to applying accents ) but feel free to edit my names whenever you want.

Kyle vs Fognini is scheduled for Saturday first on Suzanne-Lenglen at 10 am local, 9 am BST ( edit: actually 10am BST as per following posts ) with a very decent weather forecast.

A win to take Kyle into R4 would ensure that he stays ahead of Fognini in the rankings, moves ahead of Bautista Agut ( out in R3 ) and possibly moves ahead of Pouille ( 2 sets deficit to Khachanov overnight in R3 ).

 It's actually 11am local 10am uk time

Ah, sorry, I did think that's rather early but I was going by the Roland-Garros app. So is it a clever thing that gives the times for where the user is from?

Phew. That's 6am Brazil time. 5am would have been stretching it a bit, even for me. Just hope my IPTV stream is working.
