Cracking effort from a guy who was playing college tennis 12 months ago and had never played on clay! I think we can forgive a lack of experience, loved the grit he showed to hang in there at no point did he look like quiting. Plenty of strengths on which to build. The main differences between Cam and Pouille for me was strength, conditioning and consistent things that will take at least a couple of years playing on the ATP tour to develop. It will be great to watch him progress . Bring on tomorrow .

I see what you mean,
For me Pouille is quite embarrassing, he is the worst french number 1 can remember, he is nothing on peak clownfils, gasquet, tsonga, grosjean. Not saying he is bad player, but is top 30 player at best and can be top 20 with good sneaky scheduling.
If Cam can just make small improvements in a few areas he could have a solid top 50 career. Do not think he is top 15 material though, as simply does not have a major weapon.
I think much better worded that the level of the leading ranked French player is ( arguably ) embarrassing rather than that Pouille specifically is embarrassing. Alex Bogdanovich for years suffered some very unfair personal comments seemingly largely just because he was the leading ranked behind Andy - ie the best of the rest.
There is also a nice picture on Twitter going around of Cam taking selfies on Chatrier prior to his match. How surreal it must be from just a year ago.
Sascha's presser was great. The journo is very Yorkshire.

Tough fine at @rolandgarros for Peter #Gojowczyk (GER) after retiring in 1st round at 1-6 0-2 after 41 minutes ag Norrie (GBR) - 25000 Euro. should have left his spot to a lucky loser, according to ITF officials

Jonathan Pinsfield from Bradford Community Broadcasting (Bcb) radio . Volunteer radio. Cool that he was there, being from nearby to him I understood every word!
I love the camaraderie and support that Cam still has with, and gets from, his college team.
He's often mentioning them in tweets, and his old coach and team are often tweeting about him.
In the rather lonely world of pro tennis, I think it adds an important extra layer of a great support network
Will definitely do no harm, I also thought playing doubles with Kyle in the run up was a good move not just because they won but also to step away from purely being focused onself 24/7 when playing tennis. Even though Andy is towards the end of his career and DC success has essentially been dependent on him, I feel with Cam transition from college tennis so well and hopefully Dans suspension now complete, Wardie getting fit, Jay on the cusp of 200 as a teenage, Aidan, George, Jack etc all looking very promising we have some depth. DC does allow our players again to step out of that singular mindset, share experiences and develop in different ways.
Cam could do with a Mr Murray supervised November training block, he talks very positively about how David Roditi and David Bowen have passed On some of the attitudes required to becom a professional. A Murray training block defines it.

Yes. 25k (euros)
Although I was pleased for Cam when he retired, I think this is exactly right.
Peter did not play a match or even look as though he had any real chance of having a match in him. He was obviously very tired/injured from his efforts of a couple of days before. This is exactly what the rule change was brought in to prevent. And the fine is the right amount.
Doesn't drop a game for half an hour then loses three in quick succession. Looked to call the trainer on but then didn't, bit confusing. Hope he's ok...
Huge effort from Cam but despite breaking back at 5-6* in the 4th to take the set into a breaker, he finally succumbs to the home favourite.
Meanwhile Kyle seals a relatively comfortable (apart from the hand/finger problem) victory in 4 sets to book a 3rd round match up with Fognini. Now that could be some match.
