I see that four 19 yos have reached R2. In order from the youngest - Moutet, Shapovalov, Ruud and Tsitsipas and 14 under 23s in total. Currently in the live top 64 there are two 19 yos ( Shapovalov and Tsitsipas ) and 11 U23s.
With just #17 Berdych to complete ( lost the first 2 sets to Chardy ), only one top 20 seed has lost in R1 ( #14 Sock ). 6 seeds have lost in total and also #21 Kyrgios withdrew.
Moutet has done surprisingly well got to be honest, he was pretty disappointing at the Bank of England sports ground last year through his toys out early and hard and lost but obviously the French federation think a lot of him but not someone I will be following with any enthusiasm, Shapovalov is the real deal as may well be Tsitsipas yet to see Rudd in action but hopefully this will be an opportunity.

Yes, it was a fun meltdown, wasn't it? I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I particularly enjoyed Moutet posturing in ultra theatrical fashion to his corner, shouting at top volume to the world (in French):
"And who am I ? Father Christmas? All I do is give out presents. Yes, I must be. Just call me Father Christmas"
It's a common French phrase when you're making a lot of UEs but he took it to a whole new level of amateur dramatics.

Regarding the next gen, we are now in the most ludicrous situation where zverev is verging on world number 1 despite never reaching a slam QF in his life. Madness.

Definitely some strange goings on with rankings recently.
Last year, Jack Sock made the ATP Tour Finals despite very dismal performances in the slams.
Wimbledon : Lost R2
Australian Open : Lost R1
French Open : Lost R1
US Open : Lost R1
Edit
Should also add that with the exception of the Paris Masters (which he won), he didn't get past the L32 in any of the other Masters either.

It is what it is. Zverev is a huge talent, recently turned 21, who I am fairly sure will produce in time in Slams. He seems to have succumbed to the pressure up until now but he will no doubt mature.
Different players develop at different times. Kyle last year just couldn't win close matches against well ranked players or beat any top 10 players. This year he has been doing both. Players being very different with different personalities and foibles only makes things more interesting.
Anyway, not going great for Zverev today either, 2-5* down in the first set vs Lajovic.

Shout out for Chardy. 2 sets up last night when play was suspended. Had to live with a Berdych come back to 2 sets all but then regrouped to win the 5th.

I remember when people used to troll canas for reaching top 10 without reaching a QF, but Sock wow, this is just crazy. The rankings are really fake right now. I fear we are heading for women's tennis ranking style.
