Well done James

I just came into the last page of the thread and had forgotten who he was playing, and was thinking wow, Gilles Simon has added a lot of power on serve!

Cam not happy on grass?

L32:  (Q) Tobias Kamke (GER) WR 228 defeated (WC) Jay Clarke WR 220 by 3 & 3  cry

At last a bit of good news:

L32:  (SE) Dan Evans WR 530 defeated (LL) Dominik Köpfer (GER) WR 236 by 3 & 5  smile

And some more good news - eventually!  Super result to see when I landed back home.  biggrin  For the record:

L32:  (WC) James Ward WR 403 defeated (Q) Tobias Simon (GER) WR 443 by 6-4 6-7(5) 7-6(1)

*****

L16:  Marc Polmans (AUS) WR 175 (CH = 167 last month) vs (WC) James Ward WR 403

The Aussie disposed of the eighth seed, Michael Mmoh, by 4 & 4 in his first round match.

Dino must have been looking over his shoulder at Dan racing up behind him.

I know we want our young guns to do well.

But it's great to see the 'old' ones returning and performing.

What on earth happened in Cam's game. Did Ito suddenly start to play a blinder?

Oh dear...do Notts fine folk for damaging the grass like Heather at Wimbledon?

Also, I feel for Jay, he hasn't been able to get a run going for a while now.

Norrie is never going to have a lot of success on grass, in my opinion. Clay is where his strength is going to be

The surface has little do with it if his head went for a wander mid match - and from the other accounts it definitely did. The more experienced players will eat him alive if he does that.

He did play great tennis in that first set so something went wrong for Cam.

Enjoyed going and spectating today, and seeing Phil and Julia again. The unfortunate retirement of Diyas after only 3 games meant that Evo ended up playing at the same time as Jay when I'd been hoping to watch the one and then the other. But great to see Evo getting back into form, making it all look ridiculously easy at times. Needs to work on his concentration though as he still gets too easily distracted by on-court issues.

Anyone know what's happening regarding sponsorship for Evo? He came on court with a Wilson sports bag and Nike shoes, and a wristband logo that I couldn't make out, but no apparent shirt logo. A picture from Surbiton last week showed him in an Ellesse top.

Sad to see Jay go down like he did, hope he can find some form again soon.
