Week 21 - French Open Qualifying (Clay)

Q2: Jay Clarke vs Bernard Tomic (Aus) CR 206 (CH = 17 in 2016)

Tomic has had a lot of issues, let's hope he is in a better place generally but that Jay beats him.

Excellent win for Jay - presumably money but no points

It's incredibly hard to find a resource that shows the ranking points for men's grand slam qualifying rounds Jon. However on the OER site, it is showing Jay as having 8 pts for his QR1 win.  Actual qualifiers gain 25 pts, but there are points each q round. I think QR2 winners get 15 or 16 pts.

Reach QR2 = 8 points
Reach FQR = 16 points
Qualify for MD = 25 points (plus a guaranteed 10 more for a R1 loss)

I do love the way Jay has gone about his career and particularly, his approach to clay. Yasmin and Curtis have done a wonderful job so far!

Terrific win from Jay. I feared the worst after he dropped the 2nd set but what a way to seal it in the 3rd.

Against Tomic, anything can happen.

Looking at points won at other slams by various players, it does appear to be 8 points and 16 points

Jay is tantalisingly close to his career high.

Where do you begin with Tomic? I hope he accepts the help that he needs to rebuild his career and reputation. I'm not sure what is motivating him to play anymore? On that basis, I think Jay will win esp if it get's close.

Belatedly to the party but great result from Jay - and not an easy match either.

Lovely to have ongoing GB interest. Now go Liam !

(Well done also to young Denolly, ranked about 400, who's just put out John Patrick Smith (not known for his clay court, it's true, but all the same .....)
