Been a bad few mins for he GB girls, Nell was up a mini break in the TB but now 5-5, Eden lost the TB 12-10 despite leading for most of the way (and the set in general) and Barnett taken into a decider despite being a set and i think a break up.

Beth having a tough time in her match, down a double break and Alicia was in a decent position in her deciding set but now finds her self 4-3 down, on serve.

Alicia lost 3-6 6-4 6-3. Decent effort but she'll be disappointed as she was 3-1 up in the decider but lost the last 5 games.

Yeah Alicia could have taken that, had two points for *4-3.

Some good wins today, but also a lot of decent losing performances which could maybe have been pushed into victory if chances had been taken (eg Eden).

Not on the fence on this one, Emily has just taken the second set off Sam and I'm pleased. You can't begrudge either a win, but I really hope Emily takes it after the string of results (and recent draws) that she has had.

Emily takes it 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. I'm not sure if Sam may have had more chance of doing more damage in the next round(s), but that's an important win for Emily after the disappointment in Trinidad and drawing back to back top seeds in America. Unlikely, but would love to see her qualify.

Nell was an absolute star today - I know the accolade should go to Ella, given the ranking of the woman she beat, but it was a weird match, Ella played well enough and I'm thrilled for her but Bektas looked as though she absolutely hated playing on grass and couldn't get wait to get off the court.
Whereas Nell's match was a real thriller - Jess Moore plays wells on grass, far higher than that ranking.
And Nell matched her, playing stellar tennis, really high level, and also being SO brave, SO determined....it was the sort of match that makes you love being a tennis fan.
As was Em's match. You've got to give it to her - her level of fitness and application absolutely put Freya to shame (who was two courts along) - the difference was marked.
Eden also played the most beautiful tennis - Fourlis is one of my faves and the two girls were neck to neck throughout nearly all that match - you do wonder why Eden is so up and down.
Vicki, Ola and Lilly put in decent performances (even Lilly where the score was severe) - none of them looked ridiculous, there was good stuff put out on the courts.
Beth was outclassed.
Emily App v Sam wasn't a great match really.
And Lissey was close, it could have gone either way, but it wasn't inspiring stuff.

Nice to see Nell finally get a ranking after a good try 2-3 years back - Well done to Ella who has protected her ranking till November.smilesmile

Thanks CD, for the impressionistic summary, it's a wonderful confirmation of the ups and downs. Delighted for Nell, including for the ranking gained, she seems to have real potential, and very encouraging that she can already mix it toe to toe with someone of Jess Moore's calibre. Jamiee Fourlis is another big jump again, but I was delighted to see Eden give her such a good go today. Eden, when you watch her, seems to have the shots and game, someone just needs to turn her into more of a fighter. Perhaps she could also learn from Em. And really pleased for Ella Taylor too, at a minimum it helps prolong her ranking to Nov, and even if her opponent seemed so out of it, at least it suggests there is something to her game. Her match against Nadja tomorrow may be a bit more telling in terms of where her game currently is.

Of the four through tomorrow, EWS would seem to have the best chance of gaining a useful 4 pts, with Ella maybe an outside chance. For Nell she had can go into her match with absolute freedom as she has nothing to lose, Emily A has mixed it with a few higher ranked players lately and though is likely to have little chance against Melnikova, can still show that she is not out of place with higher ranked company, and suspect that will be as important to her as the final score.
