RE: Week 23 ITF ($100k) - Surbiton, Grass

Either way, EWS has just taken the first set 6-3. Hard following all of this with the small matter of the French Open going on simultaneously biggrin

Giving a MDWC to a player who only needs one more counter (eg Nell Miller or Anna Popescu) would be a totally sensible thing to do. I suspect, however, that the LTA do not even look at or probably even know about the situation of such players!

I'm not sure, 100k WCs are pretty lucrative and there's not that many of them to go around and there'd be a fair few in the qualifiers pretty annoyed if they were overlooked for someone more than likely a walking bye who would be lucky to get a sniff of a game against people in the top 200.

The MTO in Ems match can't have been for her - she's taken the last six games.

MTO in EWS match ?

I assume it must have been Chang as it's now 5-0 second set in EWS favour

Didn't see this before i commented. Chang had been in decent form with some notable wins in recent months so this would be a great win for Emily, even if did turn out to be slightly assisted.

Chang had her right thigh strapped but in all honesty I'm not sure it made a huge amount of difference. Simply, Emily can play on grass and she can't. EWS relied on a heavy slice and some nimble net-work at any opportunity, and a very erratic service from Chang. I would guess the DF count must have been well into double figures?

Emily 8 aces, 3 DF (2 DF and 3 aces in one game in 2nd set)

Chang 1 aces, 7 DF

Nell is one counter ( ie one qualifying win here ) off being ranked. Emilie Lindh Gallagher, mentioned in the Israel 15K thread ( though rather more because she is not playing ), is our only other player currently on 2 counters.

Laura Sainsbury and Anna Popescu also have 2 counters. Anna was an Alt here. Both are entered into Manchester and Ilkley.

Thanks and apologies. I had actually a note of Anna's counters but failed to make 1+1 = 2. Had missed Laura.

Does anyone know why the start of play is delayed on courts 2 and 3? It was originally scheduled for 1pm but now saying not before 3pm
