Nell lost 6-7 6-2 6-1. Did so well to win that first set and had a 2-1 lead in the 2nd so must have lost 11 of the last 12 games which is disappointing, but probably what you would have expected, certainly this time a day or two ago. Excellent couple of days though and has that ranking now.
She treds her path, at times getting very misunderstood even on this forum as to how she manages to tried that path, could be seen in many ways as an inspiration and gets virtually zero encouragement from the British powers that be. They give the impression of just wondering why she hangs around and didn't give up many years ago like so many
If it was Ankita, then they would have missed out by the most miniscule of margins, based in current rankings. 249+192 = 441. Bektas/Sanchez 287+153 = 440

Yes. Although she looks pretty fit, Nell left everything she had out on that court yesterday - I'm not surprised if her legs (or indeed her concentration) just couldn't quite keep up the level today for a whole match. A super effort from her though against a very talented young player.
And to add insult to injury, she didn't make the doubles draw.

Oh that's annoying. She should have been given a doubles WC!
They've given Emily A and Sam Murray a doubles WC instead. I really don't agree with that. Emily WS + should have had it.
Katie S and B got one too.
Not surprised about Emily App - Jeremy Bates was in very close attendance yesterday and no doubt has influence on the wildcards.
It seems to be a case if your face fits. Emily App being a Sky Sports profile as well. Tennis must be one of the few Sports where this happens in the UK. No wonder we dont produce any players of note.
There is no sport in the country that would provide financial/logistical support to their equivalent of EWS over their equivalent of Emily App. Some of them wouldn't give support to Emily App either, as she's very probably not going to be a top 200 player. You can question the priorities of sports funding in the UK generally by all means, which are basically (in this order) a) elite athletes b) potential elite athletes c) grassroots. But let's not pretend that anyone would devote resources to someone who is going to be 34 in a couple of months time and who's potential is top possibly be a top 200 doubles player. And I say that having a lot of time for EWS. I'm not sure there is any other young player who would be clearly better than Emily App who isn't getting support - though I concede that perhaps if they had had the support then I might know them better!
