Wow, a simply incredible result for Alice, who has lost all her other recent first round matches, even against similarly ranked players to herself. This takes out Alice's career best by over 400 places! Cabaj Awad is 519, previous best was against Laura Deigman when 923

Here's hoping Anna P can do the same against the decent youngster - Anna currently leading 3-0....

What a super day for the two players.

And now they play off against each other, with a guaranteed GB QF place, which is maybe a shame - but is also great (partly because hardly anybody could have thought they'd both win so it's just brill that they're both in that position)

Very good   biggrin

Alice moves to 7 points with her 4th counter.

And from having no unranked players poised on 2 counters going into May, we now suddenly have 4 such players.

Emilie L G : 2 + 4 = 6 points
Emma R : 2 + 2* = 4*
Anna P : 1 + 1* = 2*
Nell M : 1 + 1 = 2

* currently still playing this week.

Hopefully there will be some 3rd counters and rankings to come quite soon. Though Emma and Anna could get there quicker by winning titles this week!

Anna Popescu's win even more impressive given her opponent's pretty handy junior career (certainly in comparison to Anna's...)

And a question for Strongbow - was this prescience because Peter said the winners would face each other in the second round, or just because Alice was drawn against the top seed? biggrinwink
