Alice Gillan should have made the main draw - she was one place above Ella on the acceptance list

Just 5 places off her best win, which is WR1142.

NB: Strictly, Anna's best win is against Mallaurie Noel WR696, 6-3 RET - a win by RET counts if the first set is completed. Depending on how you choose to count this, it is thus either only the second or third time Anna has beaten a ranked player

Ella could not join Anna in the next round, as she was eliminated, 3-6 3-6

Another good result for Anna, who qualifies easily.

Q2: POPESCU, Anna (GBR) UNR beat EKDAHL, Therese (SWE) UNR 17yo JCH=1039 6-2 6-1

Anna will also go in search of her second counter this week.

And in the doubles she is playing again with Marina Yudanov (SWE) and they are also again 4th seeds.

Anna and Marina have won their first round doubles against an unranked Swedish pair 6-4 7-5. They will play another Swedish pair in the QF.

Anna+ win their doubles R16 6-4 7-5. smile

Anna already has 21 doubles points so the extra point won't make much difference - one more win will take her ranking to about 870.

Early days but the Swedish top seed may be showing first round nerves - Alice is 3-1 up in the first set.

Wow, Alice has won the first set 6-3 - 3 breaks to her. Keep thinking this is a blip and Cabaj Awad the top seed will start dominating...

Yes, you've got to think the Swedish player will calm down and get her act together but you never know......
