Another tough qualifying draw for Lissey again this week. In a draw of 64 she will likely have to get past the top q seed Berfu Cengiz (TUR) WR 453 in the FQR to reach the main draw. And two matches to get that far. Freya, in contrast, has an easier draw this week (having lost to Lissey in last week's qualifying, and should be able to manage it this week.
That's a really bad loss for Freya. Sadly she really looks like she is in reverse gear at the moment
Oh and there is brilliant news for Lissey. The top q seed Befru Cengiz, looks like she has been bumped upwards as she is no longer in the draw, and that paves the way much more smoothly for Lissey to reach the MD again this week. Two more wins required though to do so.
Oh dear, Freya - that's not what the doctor ordered.......
From a few years back, I had Freya in with Katie B and Harriet and Gabi and Jodie as my 'group' (with apologies to Katie S but she already had tons of fans at the time so didn't need me, and Katy D, and Maia, and others). But Freya just doesn't seem to have got it together after an initial exciting run. Without any inside knowledge, it's difficult to know.....last year she just looked a bit sluggish and resigned ..... I do hope the UK events bring her a bit more success....
Eden is the other player who hasn't kicked on at all so far this year. After a good run at the back end of last year, I had her predicted to continue to make good progress this year, but she has also stalled so far. Nevertheless Eden is still within the top 500, whereas Freya is about to lose her top counter of 9 pts next week, and will slump back to about Wr 588 and GB #18, behind both Fran Jones and EWS. That is decidedly below her potential talent level, but there is something clearly missing or not right at the moment.

Yes, you're right, but Eden never looked so promising as a junior though, I'm only going off those I pick out as juniors/teenagers (Emily Arb is in there too). And it's not always for pure tennis reasons, sometimes just a little soft spot as well. But there's always been something slightly strange about Eden's schedules and tennis set-up - maybe injury related - maybe just her. Mind you, she's playing French league tennis at the moment, and winning, so she's seemingly in a reasonable place.
In the doubles, Maia and Lissey are playing together this week, whilst Freya is playing with Berfu Cengiz (TUR). Neither are seeded but they avoid seeded pairs in the L16.
I got to be honest Im gutted for Freya, she hits a really heavy ball, an obvious weapon. Hopefully shes fully fit and giving it her all but also getting the technical and tactical support she requires to use and control it. If so there is still plenty of time to come good.
