Impressively efficient again from Harriet. Tracking along not that far behind the rather more talked about Gabi and Katie B and looking very good of late.

One more win here will have her into the top 200 ( currently live ranked 206 ) and I am sure I am not alone in revising my thoughts a bit on where this young lady can get to.

With the various permutations taking into effect points coming off in two weeks time, if she wins this tournament Harriet will go past Gaby on 21/5, reach the final and she will be just behind. Harriet has 18 pts coming off 21/5, Gabi 50 pts. As you've said, Indy, one more win will take her into the top 200, reach the final and she is guaranteed to remain in the top 200, once those points come off. Harriet has withdrawn from Wuhan next week, so I assume is returning back to the UK/ Europe end of this week to prepare for the grass.

Just checking - the match detail above suggests Harriet is ranked a fair bit above Thandi but Thandi is seeded 5th, is that correct? Or should Harriet have a seeding as well? Either way, it seems a winnable match.

 That makes more sense!

It seems Naomi, Katie B, Gabi , Katy D, Katy S, Laura and Harriet, and maybe Tara as well (I dont follow too closely) are playing a lot of the same events this year - have they played each other often in the past 12 months and, rankings aside, who is heading up the H2H match ups among that little lot - there may be one or two other relevant names I have missed of course!

always amazes me how Emily can afford to jet round the world playing tennis because her earnings from tennis would barely cover the air fares and accommodation, She must have very rich parents.

Double barrelled name adored by our resident Tory. Not really a surprise

I have it on good authority that Em is the polar opposite of someone born with the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth; her parents sacrificed much to enable Em to pursue her dream of tennis as a career; and the Webley was added to her name as a ruse to avoid the airline ****-ups her parents from experience knew would blight her travel arrangements if she were just "Smith".

Pretty sure that, like me, Paul adores Em for her clear love of the sport and the seemingly limitless reserves of hard graft she has put into it rather than the constituent parts of her name.

Wikipedia states her mother to have been a PE teacher and her father an amateur sportsman. Indeed no silver spoon.

I have huge admiration for what Emily has achieved and how she manages to keep going, with all the fortitude that has required. She obviously makes friends easily on the tour, and I think it is precisely because of her popularity and longevity, that she generates a lot of respect from peers, and at times acts as a spokesperson for them.

Maia is in the filter too, but she has no applicable matches, so doesn't show up.

Well, that is a rather fascinating group of H2Hs and really interesting that in it Katy Dunne who comes out on top there, but with no matches against Harriet and just one loss to Katie B. It is also interesting that it is Gabi that is effectively at the bottom of that table, but hasn't played Laura or Katie S. There could be quite a few more interesting H2Hs amongst that group in the months ahead, as they continue to move up (mostly) and jostle for position smile

Very fascinating - and certainly a table to watch over the next few months.

And we thought our predictions for the year were going to be over-optimistic !

I knew Blob would have the data! Thanks for that. The most interesting one to me is Katy Dunne, who comes out well on H2H results , particularly given her relatively lower ranking within the cohort.
