With Alicia Barnett's qualification and R1 win in Korea, Emily and Alicia, our GB #19 and #20, are both in running on to 40 points for Monday week.
That's 20 in the top about 630.
GB #s 10 to 20 are grouping up from about WR 430 to WR 630 ( as things stand 80 points to 40 points on Monday week ). We await someone to truly enter the great divide to our #9 even if Laura threatens to lessen that divide a bit from the wrong side
Think Francesca is most likely to do that, the problem is that the gap in points between the 15ks and higher events makes it difficult even if you are winning titles.
The new system next year will hopefully make it more realistic and accurate, cut out the rich kids from the rankings that shouldnt be considered professionally ranked players. The next step would be to have tennis as a more inclusive sport, but this wont happen under our current vested interest class ridden members clubs.
Out in straight sets - 4-6, 4-6. Bit of a frustrating time for her of late, I'm sure she'd have her sights higher than another QF travelling all that way and being the highest ranked.
Yup, Emily has been totally done by her doubles partner. The untold story is that whilst Emily's current singles ranking might be much more impressive than Maria Jose's, nevertheless she is also still a junior and her JCH is non too shabby. Maybe not quite at Emily's level, but I'd be surprised if there was equal opportunity here.
QF: APPLETON, Emily (GBR) 1 627 18yrs (JCH: 10 Feb 17) lost to PORTILLO RAMIREZ, Maria Jose (MEX) 1075 (CH=1069 30/4/18) 19yrs (JCH:43 April 17) 4-6 4-6
She's definitely found a little bump in her climb that she's finding it currently hard to surmount. Give it time and hope fully she can raise her game enough to get over it and continue the climb; that this is not her ceiling.

I'm not a big fan of Emily's game. She's never been on my radar, although I hope she proves me wrong. I definitely think she should have gone the college route (she's a very smart girl).
