Week 19 - Challenger (€127,000+H) - Open du Pays d'Aix, Aix-en-Provence (clay)

1st set to the good, well done Joe and partner. Keep it up.

I see Lindstedt is playing here also, with Stakhovskiy, few days after winning with Dom

And they've just lost in straight sets to Petzschner & Pütz!

L16:  Jonathan Eysseric (FRA) & Joe Salisbury CR 161 (79+82) defeated (1) Fabrice Martin & Purav Raja (FRA/IND) CR 116 (51+65) by 7-6(4) 7-5

They came back from a break down in that second set.  biggrin

Good win for Joe and Eysseric, they seem to make a good pairing and that is a very strong win. Excellent result.

Yes, JWR 1 at age 16 Eysseric was clearly a great talent as a youngster, and with him these days at age 27 concentrating on doubles it is an interesting pairing these last two weeks.

As Indi points out - sorry, its an American phrase.

ADJECTIVE
US
informal
1(in sport) denoting or occurring at a critical situation in which the outcome of a game or competition is at stake.

they both are hard-nosed players who seem to thrive in clutch situations
More example sentences
1.1 (of a player or action) achieving or characterized by success at a critical moment in a game or competition.
a clutch quarterback
clutch performances

A clutch performance from Joe and partner in a tight situation!

On a serious note, there are certain players one would regard as clutch players - when the game is tight and they are in a corner they seem to be able to get themselves out of it. One could say Kyle isn't clutch, but that might be controversial!

The more extreme French version of Luke Bambridge....

Shame really.
