A great win for Beth and Olivia here today, and 18 pts locked in now too. Tough again next round, but looks like they are playing well together this week.
One more win should see Olivia get inside the top 300 for doubles in two weeks time. Beth moving up more slowly, as her lowest counter currently is 7, but she will move into a CH in two weeks, just inside the top 250.
So top seed Bouzkova up next for Katie. Difficult, obviously, but not totally out of the question. Bouzkova has had a lot of wins this year and does look a talented prospect, but as a Patty Schneider fan on TF pointed out the other week, she hasn't really beaten anyone of note - Katie B in the USA a few weeks ago is probably her best win this year, or Zvonareva via retirement. Schneider beat her 2 and 1 in Prague last week. She has started to play more on the WTA stage, or at least in the quals, and while Swan is a long way off that, I'd think to think Katie would be considered one of her better wins if she does prevail. She beat her Spanish opponent via 2 tie breaks earlier today.
Now more than covering her 5 points due off next week Katie should push her current WR/CH 288 up a few places.
Also after that she only has 6 points ( 4 and 2 pointers ) due off before September ( another few half decent counters and they won't even be counters to come off ). So a nice window to really push up the rankings in the coming months including clearly all the grass court season and a fair bit beyond.
Agreed, she has obviously struggled a bit with her fitness over the last 18 months or so, hopefully she is beginning to get a feel for how to look after her body on what is a fairly gruelling and basic existence on the 25k tour.
