Week 19 - ITF ($25K) - Monzon, Spain - Hard

Spain and its not clay. Beth into the second round of qualifying, with just one match to win to reach the main draw. Whoever she plays will be unranked. Katie S should be in the main draw.

QR1: Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) [q2] 610 vs BYE

Let's hope Beth qualifies and gets a decent draw.

Good efficient win for Beth here, which earns her a point too.

Main draws are out now too. Katie S is seeded 7th in the singles. Qualifiers yet to be placed.

In the doubles, Katie is playing with Emma Laine (FIN), and Beth and Olivia are playing here together again too. No seeding for either, but they also play unseeded others in the L16, as all the seeded pairs have byes to the QF.

Fingers crossed that Beth gets a good draw - five of the qualifiers will play seeds. Beth and Olivia didn't miss out on seeding by much.

Looks a very tough match for Katie vs Montserrat Gonzalez who has had a lot of success in Tunisia of late and gave Muguruza a huge scare in the Fed Cup a couple of weeks ago, losing 6-4 5-7 6-4 - anyone who takes 15 games off Garbine must have something about her. Should Katie come through then she would face a WC for a place in the QFs, but I'd say her first match was a real 50/50.

Not a bad draw really, as SBG gets Moldovan-Spaniard, Bolsova Zadoinov, WR355 (just one spot off her CH).

In Obidos she didn't play singles either - she was there three weeks and didn't play in the SQ any of those weeks.

Olivia is currently concentrating on her successful doubles partnership with Beth.

But Beth is playing singles and doubles? I guess your point is that this is allowing Olivia to play in higher level tournaments than she would be able to if she was trying to play singles as well... I hope they can start to get seeded more regularly soon at 25k level, which then should allow them also to enter the next level of ITF events upwards more regularly for doubles too. But for them to do that, Beth will also have to see if she can still continue to combine singles and doubles. Still the points on offer at 25k events is good, even if the money is still limited.

Yes I'm sure that is correct Michael. The doubles in Monzon looks quite strong but let's hope for the best.
