In the interest of balance - which I fear I've lost - the WTA commentator seems to think Jo is playing fantastically, and the Madrid crowd seem pretty enthusiastic about her too.
So, Jo breaks back, and I'll leave it there to preserve fairness.

Jo is no longer the seed at these events; Rybarikova is. All other things aside, getting the result over a seed in a Prem Mandatory is a fine result. It also staves off that mandatory minimum counter.
A rematch of the Aussie Open, with Bernards Pera awaits.
That is the first MD win at a WTA level event for a Brit woman since 2nd April, when Naomi won in R32 of Monterrey.

At WR17, that is also Johanna's best rankings win of 2018, beating her previous best of WR19, which came in her first win of the year, in Brisbane, against Madison Keys.
It is in fact her best result since R16 of Cincinnati in August last year, when she beat a WR11 Cibulkova in R16 there.

Or a decider as Jo has already levelled that up since the AO
Yeah I always think that when players have lots of points to defend and they are not used to it then they feel the pressure more on the first year when its all new territory. I meant to post before she played today that I have a feeling Jo is going to do well again this summer and move back up towards the top 10.
I also think that this years Slams again will go to 4 different winners, but picking them is going to be difficult. Probably about 15-20 players that have a chance in each. On the mens side Roger and Rafa again will clean up depending on Andy and Novak. Cant see any of the others making an impact.
