James serve has improved as the match has gone on. Still on serve at 5-4. Gabashvili now serving to stay in the match

Gabashvili looks like he's in a lot of pain with his arm. Not nice to see, I'd be surprised if this carries on. 30-30 btw

He looks like he is in a real bad way. Another MTO. He may not make it past this one. I can't see any way he would be able to make it through another set and a bit with his arm as it is.

As I type. He has retired.

Thats a shame he does retire, poor guy.

James wins 7-5 5-4

Very entertaining match, James is looking great again, so happy to have him back

Pleased for James, and in a way pleased that Gabashvili made the right choice. Carrying on was not going to do his elbow/arm any good at all in the long run. It was a wise decision.

From what I saw, James's forehand has come on in recent weeks and he looks a lot more match fit.

Great week for James.

What's his ranking projection?

As BiS says elsewhere this moves him to around 467. Another win, near to edge of top 400. Win the whole event and mid 300's.  And I suspect a guaranteed Wimbledon MD WC if he wins this event. Or even reaches the final
