Week 21 - Challenger (€85,000) - Loughborough Trophy, Loughborough, Great Britain (indoor hard)

It is James' 8th tournament of the year so he is a bit less fresh back but he does seem to be getting his game steadily back in better working order.

Dan certainly looks to be picking up quicker and the better bet for the coming months. All being well he anyway has a better top level to aspire to.

The standard on the current match isn't great!

QF:  (4) Frederik Nielsen (DEN) & Joe Salisbury CR 269 (183+86) defeated Julian Ocleppo & Andrea Vavassori (ITA/ITA) CR 363 (211+152) by 5-7 6-0 [10-8]

*****

SF:  Robert Galloway & Nathaniel Lammons (USA/USA) CR 403 (217+186) vs (4) Frederik Nielsen (DEN) & Joe Salisbury CR 269 (183+86)

Typical!  The Yanks were handed a walkover by Ilkel & Setkic, who defeated Billy & George so narrowly in the first round.  cry

QF:  Teymuraz Gabashvili (RUS) WR 375 (CH = 43 in February 2016) vs (WC) James Ward WR 614

That's going to be a tough one.  "Gaba", of course, did for Pavic (5/WR 265) by 4 & 4 in the first round.

Pretty high quality match up for a pair of players whose combined ranking is almost 1000.

Gabashvilli had an impressive 17 match losing streak during last year!!

Tim Gabashvilli is a notorious brit basher having beaten Andy Murray in 3 sets in Washington a couple of years ago. A good player when he is on but he can be very wild as his natural game is to go for his shots and when that doesn't work the UE count can get ugly fast.

Literally one mens seed left, and the 8th at that, left in the singles draw.

Such a good chance for Dan and Jimbo!

Well "or" rather than "and", unfortunately!

Well hitting back with the pedanticism, surely it's "and" rather than "or", as while they can't both win it, they both can.

Hmmm - this already looks a much trickier assignment than the first round.

Rodionov much keener to dictate the points than Purcell was... one of those players that if he gets the big bangers in consistently will be very dangerous
