SF:  Jonathan Eysseric (FRA) & Joe Salisbury CR 167 (81+86) vs Wesley Koolhof & Artem Sitak (NED/NZL) CR 115 (60+55)

The Dutch/Kiwi duo did for the third seeds, Marc López & David Marrero, in three sets in the first round.

Joe up 4 places on the week, 82nd now in live rankings, more importantly a really good scalp to get.

Brilliant. Pleased for Eysseric too. He was a huge star as a junior and never quite lived up to it. But he and Joe have played together a couple of times now and it seems to be working.

I see Eysseric seems to be really focussing on doubies of late, though like Joe with many different partners. So an interesting pairing. Who knows if this might be the one but would be great if Joe could find a settled partner that he is comfortable with to help see how far he can really go.

Interesting to see Joe & Dom doing well on the clay. I noticed Jamie also had a few clay wins on Tour, maybe the extra time on return helps their games in some way?

More about serve and volley isn't it wherever it is played so I'd say the surface is quite a bit less of an issue in doubles and you much less have particular specialists on any surface.

Watching yesterday on the Challenger site on ATP a fair few doubles players seem to stay back on serve though now, which presumably means the returners have a chance to get to the net first, which I was always told was a good strategy - so maybe that is also helping the Brits if they are naturally trying to reach the net quickly.

Don't know - being honest, I dont tend to see much top class doubles and seldom on clay so hard to comment beyond that

One of many factors that contribute to odd results. Along with format and plenty of other variables.

Thats got to hurt from Cam there but very encouraging. Think I may have jinxed him and Gabi with my post the the their day. Plenty of time yet and they are certainly the two most likely to succeed on the mens and womens side in the coming years. May have a chance of winning a round or 1 possible at RG depending on the draw.

What a heartbreaker.....

Now, if that were Kyle, who'd been leading 5-2, had three MPs, and still lost, there would be those screaming out 'choker'....

But I think it just shows what a tough sport tennis is - no counting the clock down - and tons of variables on the day, as Jaggy says above.....

Real promising week, Cam.

It will do Cam the world of good to get a doubles win after losing the singles. Hope the guys can do it...

Yes I wonder if Cam and Kyle are playing doubles as a way of sharpening their serve and volley game with grass season in mind. Indianas post above got me thinking about this. Neither have a pedigree on grass mainly due to how theyve came through development wise, so this might actually be a very good idea oddly enough to play clay doubles to help their grass singles.
