RE: Week 18 - ATP 250 - TEB BNP Paribas Cup, Istanbul, Turkey (clay) - doubles

QF:  Dominic Inglot & Robert Lindstedt (SWE) CR 125 (57+68) defeated (4) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski CR 111 (62+49)  by 7-6(3) 6-3

Really pleased for Dom, who seems to be on a bit of a roll at the moment, that he & Robert toppled the fourth seeds, but disappointed for Ken & Neal.

*****

SF:  Dominic Inglot & Robert Lindstedt (SWE) CR 125 (57+68) vs (2) Marcin Matkowsi & Divij Sharan (POL/IND) CR 90 (47+43)

Agreed, I think I supported Dom for reasons I cant fathom. Shame he doesnt seem to be able to hold down a long term partner.

Might send out a small message to Leon Smith, in case he is thinking about his doubles options.

Just as an aside, Dom obviously won Budapest last week with Skugor. Not wishing to hijack this week, but if he wins he will have been champion 2 weeks running which I think deserves a lot of credit. 2 questions - has he ever won 6 (currently) plus matches consecutively before in his career and, secondly, has a GB player in doubles ever won back to back ATP tour level titles??

Yes and yes.

Dom won 6 matches in a row in April last year, the Marrakech 250 title with Mate Pavic, a week off, then the Budapest 250 SF with Robin Haase. Better than that though, in 2015 with one Robert Lindstedt he won the Winston-Salem 250 title and then reached the US Open SF no less, 8 wins in a row.

Jamie & Bruno did a grass double last year with the Stuttgart 250 followed by Queen's 500. Before that though the one I did remember without looking up, very early on in their partnership in 2016 they won the Sydney 250 and the Australian Open that followed. May well be more from Jamie and/or others.

And interesting to see that with this Dom moves up 9 places to #48 on the live rankings... and the once again British #2 position, as Neal falls two positions to #51. And with the final still to come...

Well done DOm, Neal's time will come again I am sure.

We could really do with two players in the top 30 or so I feel. We have Jamie, Dom, Neal, Ken, Joe all top 100 right now, which is good, and Luke, Scott, Jonny , even Brydan in fact in the 100-150 range, certainly the first 3 of those could push onto make it 8 top 100 which would be excellent.

The good thing is Dom won last week with a different partner so suggests he himself is playing well at the moment after a poor time since the Australian. Good for him. After DC, I was ready to write him off personally, so glad to see him hitting form again

Listening to the tennis podcast, I hadnt realised Dom and Marcus daniel are still an official pairing, but Daniel is injured for a few weeks. So Dom is hustling for a partner. He is doing pretty well at hustling!
