Some good news for the day though, as the completed scores gradually reappear on the 'dead' scores site. Emily and Ksenia have won their L16 doubles match, which gains them a whole 21 points (and which for Emily will mean a +9 pt gain so far next week).

They beat Erika Sema (JPN) and Abigail Tere-Apisah (PNG) 3-6 6-3 10-8 smile

Excellent news biggrin

Pity it's Harriet and Laura next but nice that we'll defo have an interest in the SFs smile

Annie K's decision to not play Katy in the second singles rubber seems totally justified now then.

I think you're mixing up Katy D and Gabi.

Being the seeds, Nara and Gabi are due to meet in the quarter finals, so that will be interesting should it happen.

Actually I'm really hoping that Gabi does play Kurumi Nara later in the tournament, because then blob is going to have a field day, whatever the score biggrinbiggrin

Mind you, we'd all be fascinated by that match. A few just as fascinating match ups before any such potential event however, as winner of Gabi's R32 match will be playing either Harriet or Katie B. But between the three of them, one of them should have a go against Kurumi, unless she loses her next match, or EWS's doubles partner acts as a total spoiler.  confuse

For insomniacs it's a Brit fest from 10 am local, 2 am BST with the 4 courts starting with 5 Brits.

Harriet vs Katie B plus the Naomi, Laura and Gabi matches.

Lie their and watch those live scores change

Naomi returns later to one of the courts, 3rd on in partnership with Katy D.

Was just about to say not long now until the Brits start, but there's just no way I could justify staying up until 4/5am. Hopefully I wake up to wins for Gabi, Naomi and Laura - Naomi's should be a given.

Can't make my mind up who I want to win in the Boulter-Dart match. I do prefer Katie and think she will do better things, but it's arguably a bigger match for Harriet and while you'd expect Gabi and Katie to be pretty much nailed on for Wimbledon MDWCs, if Dart could beat Katie (and potentially Gabi in L16) you'd think she'd be pretty likely join them in the main draw.

Very few will see this before they play, but I'd be interested to see who most of the board would be rooting for.

I said earlier I just favour Katie as the more likely winner. Probably just prefer Katie to win too but certainly no biggie. Best of luck to the winner. And yes see the point about Harriet and a possible Wimbledon MD WC.

Harriet vs Katie B I'm pretty neutral. Would love it to be close mainly, and am really intrigued to see how Harriet does! If it was Gabi involved though, as may happen in the next round... then it's Gabi I'd want to win, whichever of the other two it might be! Gabi has still done less to prove herself against better quality players than Katie B, so the next few months, leading up to and including the grass season, are going to be really interesting for this cohort, to see if any/ and/ Gabi/ Katie B/ Harriet can really make progress up beyond the 150 mark and towards the top 100. And there's even Laura R too, who has still sprung the odd surprise this year, although she's actually made steadier upwards progress in doubles rather than singles. Katy D, is the least likely of this group. She hasn't yet got the game really to make a further significant advance yet on the 16% she has already improved her ranking by this year (from the graph Peter/blob posted in the Random Charts section).

Fantastic result for Harriet, which seems to have been built around her return game, but one more match each before we get Gabi vs Kurumi. Sorry Harriet, but we gotta have this match now! biggrin

Mind you based on their match up earlier this year, Gabi vs Harriet could be a close affair, especially given Harriet's rather dominating performance today.

After this match up the Brits are in the opposite halves of the draw.

QF: Harriet DART/ Laura ROBSON (GBR/GBR)[3] 312 (198+114) vs Emily WEBLEY-SMITH/ Ksenia LYKINA (GBR/RUS) 472 (266+206)
QF: Naomi BROADY/ KATy DUNNE (GBR/GBR) [2] 243 (73+170) vs Erina HAYASHI/ Moyuka UCHIJIMA (JPN/JPN) 1584 (323+1261)

Big fan of the tennis potential of both Harriet and Katie B but very glad for Harriet.

It was 0-3 in the head-to-heads before this one. It really was Harriet's turn.

But Gabi's a great character - great to watch. Brilliant that one of them is going to be in the QFs.

I can see Laura becoming a dubs specialist, such a waste, but the other girls her age and a bit younger are now past her, and she shows no sign that she will improve as they are. It's exiting about the other 'youngsters' though. Fed cup selection will be interesting next year. I'm with the cohort that say that Heather won't be in the mix.
