Well, it seems as though Emily hasn't got it although its confusing. She saved one MP, then the scores have been stuck since, so I'm assuming the match has ended, though would love to be proved wrong. But if that's the case, then just the 1 pt, same as last year here. Let's hope Em has a better run in the doubles.
QR2: Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) 602 lost to Erina HAYASHI (JPN) [q7] 519 (CH:450 June 17) 4-6 6-4 4-6
Attention will turn to the MDs now, they should come soon.

Strangely maybe there was an MTO... as now about 15 mins later there has been another MP been and saved and Emily has lost a BP. A third MP and won... Sadly fate was not to be tempted and the score stays the same as reported.
Mixed bag; not sure how Naomi's opponent wangled a spot at a $80K. If Katy beats Nara, what a can of worms that will open! Katie B. has never yet lost a set to Harriet in 3 previous meetings - all on hard - so must be a strong favourite in the all GB match.
R32: Katy DUNNE (GBR) 225 v. Kurumi NARA (JPN) [1] 103 (CH 32, Aug. 2014)
R32: Harriet DART (GBR) 215 v. Katie BOULTER (GBR) 174 > H2H 0-3 > 2017 Clare, Australia - ITF $25K - Hard - R32 - Boulter by 6-2 6-2 > 2017 Perth, Australia - ITF $25K - Hard - FQR - Boulter by 6-1 7-5 > 2016 Glasgow, UK - ITF $10K - Hard - R32 - Boulter by 6-1 6-4
R32: Gabriella TAYLOR (GBR) [6] 173 v. Ksenia LYKINA (RUS) 302 (CH 171, Apr. 2010)
R32: Laura ROBSON (GBR) 222 v. Su Jeong JANG (KOR) [5] 172 (CH 120, Jun. 2017) > H2H 1-1 > 2017 Fukioka, Japan - ITF $60K - Carpet - QF - Jang by 6-4 2-0 RET > 2016 US Open Qualifying - Slam - Hard - QR1 - Robson by 6-3 6-2
The winner of the Harriet/Katie B match then potentially plays Gabi.
Only Katy plays in singles tomorrow.
EWS is partnering Lykina in the dubs. The other brit partnerships are interesting. Harriet partners Laura and are 3rd seeds and Naomi partners Katy and are 2nd seeds.
Naomi's opponent, Yuki Ukai, is 20 yrs old and has played and lost in the qualifying first round of Gifu and in the doubles MD since 2014. This is the first year she has been given a WC directly into the main draw. The reason quite likely is that her sister Miki Ukai, 23, who has been given a WC into the MD since even earlier than Yuki, is not present this year. Yuki is again playing in the doubles. Neither has ever won a match, singles or doubles, and apart from one other Japanese 25k tournament last October, in which Yuki lost in Q1 singles and doubles, neither has played in any tournament other than Gifu. Miki first played at Gifu in 2010.
Miki as a junior did have a JCH:1211 in Jan 2009, Yuki has no junior record. So draw your own conclusions...
I saw their early 2016 Glasgow match from courtside. It was Katie's first ITF match back after her year out and she settled in very well ( went on to reach the SF ) while Harriet was poor on the day.
Both have come on quite a way since then and Harriet particularly even since these Australian meetings early last year.
Katie has the 3 previous wins but not sure that it is a bad match up for Harriet if she brings her best form to the court. Might just favour Katie but I don't see her as strong favourite.

And people moan about being overly generous with wildcards in our local tournaments. That is scandalous.
Happens in ATP events in Qatar as well I seem to remember Andy playing an unranked player couple years ago. Naomi lost to Sabrina Bamburac a few years ago who is pretty dire so anything is possible.....
Japan has one of the greatest depths of talent in the world so there must be something more to it than they just happen to be the only ones available to fill out the draw
Yuki is 3rd in the Gifu Prefecture rankings and recently won the National Sports Festival Tennis Competition Gifu Prefecture qualifying. Perhaps it is a reward for winning that?
