Dan has been quite lucky with the draw. Corrie and Barry are no slouches but in both cases he has played them several times before and knows their games. I hadn't realised how close Dan and Ed where on head to heads before yesterday, they had a 3-3 record I believe, now 4-3 and with Barry it is currently 3-1. That helps Dan in terms of familiarity and means he can focus on his own game. It's worked out a treat on day one and with a patsy field generally, his main rival will be tiredness later in the week.
If Dan wins today , I imagine he will next play Tuesday and then Thursday. His first back to back will be then be after that. I predict he will make it through to the weekend and tiredness may bite, but I reckon he would take a semifinal place now if that was offered as the outcome to the week.

Excellent - beaten two players in the 400 to 500 range and comfortable wins as well, so he's clearly playing already above that level. Let's hope rest of week goes well.
Where do 5 points put him in the live rankings then? Top 1000?

Not quite, I don't think, but I don't really understand how these things work. The Argentine, Andrés Molteni, who lost the doubles final to Dom in Budapest earlier, currently has five points (with one tournament played) & he's WR 1177=. A win in the first round would guarantee Dan eight points & Brandon Holt, who has 13 points from six tournaments, stands at 921, so that may do it.
Really pleased for Dan and looking forward to following his progress over the coming months. Just hoping he doesn't draw Jonny Grey in the main draw now

With top seed Lukas lacko ranked at 105 being the only player ranked in the top two hundred, I'd prefer Dan to be drawn in the bottom half. Drawing Jonny Grey is the only way that can happen as the other three qualifier spots are in the top half.

Think I'd still prefer him to be in the top half. If he can get one of the bottom 2 slots, preferably vs Hiltzik, then he would have a great chance of getting a few wins under his belt and if he did meet Lacko in the SF and went out (not guaranteed) then so be it - it would still be an excellent first tournament back for him and it would also allow both of those 2 to have the chance to put runs together here. A few wins for Gray and he may secure that SW19 wildcard and he's probably the best option out of the others in contention.
Such as weak field, what happened to the likes of Bhambri and a couple of others.
