Week 18 - Challenger (€85,000) - Glasgow Trophy, Glasgow, Great Britain (indoor hard)

Pluses so far:
Backhand cross looks lovely. Serving really well.
Negatives:
Not moving great, forehand a bit wayward

Starting to win regularly at challenger level now.
I'd normally suggest that James has had his fair share of wildcards, but the fact that he doesn't have a full ranking and his form suggests he could be playing a lot higher may allow wildcards this season for the grass.
There is hardly a lot of competition..

Sadly, no fairytale comeback:

L32:  (8) Lucas Miedler (AUT) WR 331 defeated (Q) Dan Evans UNR by 2-6 6-2 6-4

And Miedler has now crashed out to a fellow qualifier, Daniel Brands (1 & 3), which means there are currently only four seeds left in the draw - the top four!

Brands has just come back from winning 2 Futures in Tunisia.  He had closer matches there than so far in Glasgow. I agree ,I think he will go deep here too.

Lloyd Glasspool is on next for his 2nd round match. A win will take him above Ed and Brydan in live rankings.

I noticed they are playing a few second round matches before Aiden McHugh plays his first round match. I guess they wanted to give him that evening slot but will it make much difference to spectators numbers, i doubt it...seems strange scheduling to me.

Well done to Wardy, another win and he is into top 600 again.

Well done to James

That is just his second win against a top 300 player since he beat Liam in the Granby Challenger in August 2016. The other one was a fine looking if outlier win against Ricardas Berankis in a China Challenger in August 2017.

That gives some indictation of how long and far he has been away from his best form with his injury issues and is playing catch up. But fit and gaining some confidence there should hopefully be much more to come here and in the coming weeks.

Probably requested a late start as James was travelling from Mexico and Aidan went deep last week.

Please also note James Ward has used 2 x MDWC this year. If he gets another at Loughborough, he will not be able to use anymore this year other than in a GS.

Good match this between Lloyd and Olaso. Just worried that Lloyd is letting Olaso do all the hitting and he is very solid.

To some extent maybe. But there's late and late. We're into late Wednesday for Aidan, as said after some R2 matches. I had actually been thinking similar to Jon. Evo was put on at a similar time earlier.
