Week 18 - ITF ($15K) - Akko, Israel Hard

Brill job, Emilie. As said, I thought it was going to be closer. Foxy French girl is no slouch. Lovely result.

Yay Emilie

So one more win here for an ITF final, 9 points in total, unranked and still miles down entry lists.

Two more wins here for an ITF title, 14 points in total, into the top 1000 in the rankings and GB #24.

The minimum 10 points part of the 10 points or 3 counters ranking rule is an ongoing piece of nonsense.

It looks like Emilie will fairly soon join the ranked but still ...

Shame we can't use the ITF rankings yet. That win will move her up about 250 places in the shadow ITF rankings from 733 to around 480.

How do they work exactly? Do you mean race points?

Ah I see not invested any time researching that yet, thanks for the explanation. In theory then it should be reward those winning titles and going deep at this level, and in turn remove the plodders and mummyanddaddypayformytennisdespitemebeingdross types then.

All these unpleasant posts are such a good recommendation for the tories in Scotland!

The odds at Bet365 were set at 1/7 (Emilie) vs 4/1 and then changed to 1/10 vs 11/2 the morning of the match.

Tomorrow's match was 8/11 (Emilie) vs 1/1, but it is currently 5/6 vs 5/6

I expect it's been said before but Lina Glushko is the younger sister of Julia, ex WTA-79.

I always like family connections.....

They're warming up now

Actually it hasn't been noted that Lina is the younger sister of Julia. I had thought the name was familiar, without putting two and two together. Our Lina appears to have something about her too, her pedigree is showing, as for the first time this week Emilie is starting very much on the back foot. In general this week Emilie's serve has held up well and she has not been broken often in matches, but today she's already 1-5 down first set, so hope she can start to get into the match and regroup for the second set.

One break back a good start *2-5

If you had Emilie down for last Brit lady standing in singles, then collect your large cheque now.
Need some work to extend the run further, having surrendered the first et, 3-6

A pity. Emilie won her next service game, and then had one BP opportunity to bring the score back on serve first set, but she didn't take it, and then Lina went on to hold and win the set... And though she seemed to be gaining a foothold in the match end of that first set, Emilie has now been broken again start of the second cry  3-6 0-1*

And not to be for Emilie today, but a wonderful, cheering run this week. May she find a way to get her final counter next week, or at least very soon.

SF: LINDH GALLAGHER, Emilie (GBR) [Q] UNR lost to GLUSHKO, Lina (ISR) 1062=CH 18yrs (JCH:215 Sept 16) 3-6 3-6

Well done on a good week Emilie.
Might we have found our new Manisha/Mirabelle/Suzy?
